DS put a load of his jeans in the washer (front loader) . It just ended. I went to load them into the dryer and found his iPod there.

What do I do? Let it air dry and hope for the best.

:confused3

Please help me supreme and knowledgable DISers! :worship:

Thanks!

Na na na na, Na na na na na, Hey hey hey, GOODBYE!

So sorry, I'm sure they are expensive, but I have a feeling its a goner. I know when my DH spilled a very small amount of liquid on my cell phone, it died right then and there.
I guess, let it air dry, and just hope for the best - good luck!!

A trick commonly suggested is to put it in a baggie of uncooked rice and see if that helps. The rice is supposed to draw the moisture out. Whatever you do, don't try "drying" it with a hair dryer or anything like that!

I know the rice trick has worked wonderfully for some people and not at all for others, but good luck!!

OMG - The screen came up, but we are trying to turn it off. :confused3

Whatever you do - do not try to turn it on as that can cause a short.

My son's ipod went through a full wash too...same thing, I found it while putting clothes in the dryer. The good news is that it fully recovered!!

My advice is to not touch it for several days. I know how hard it is not to turn it on, but don't do it!! Place it in a warm (not hot) dry spot and let it fully dry out before you give it a try and you might have a chance.

Good Luck!!

I know of 2 people who have washed their ipods, both still work. Let it dry for a few days, do not turn it on or charge it. Ipods are much better at taking a bath than a cell phone. Good Luck!!

ok here is what Ive heard a lot of people swear by

Take the battery off, put the whole thing in a baggie with one of those silica bags, you know the kind with shoes that say DO NOT EAT, and seal it up for a couple of days.

good luck!

I REALLY suggest the rice trick. It will draw out the moisture as best it can. Don't just let it dry on the counter tho..it'll take too long.

You can't take the battery off of an ipod.

OP I only know of one person who did the same thing. She did try to turn it on after she found it and it wouldn't turn on. The rice trick did not work for them and they had to replace the it.
I hope you have better luck :goodvibes

The best thing to do is leave it alone to dry completely and fully - if you're techno enough take the back off so all the parts can dry - but if you don't know how to don't try and end up making it worse. If it's a shuffle there is no way I don't think that you can take it apart

If it dries out completely it should work just fine, but sometimes it'll have other damage such as to the screen, my friends went through the washer, and it plays alright but the screens broken.

Good luck, I think I would actually cry if this happened to my ipod!

How long has your son had the iPod because if it is still under warranty you might be able to get replaced or something.

unfortunately, the warranty is no more. By washing it, the warranty has been voided.

First off, DO NOT TOUCH ANY BUTTONS. Do not tinker with it, do not try to turn it on.

Fill a tupperware with uncooked white rice, and put the ipod on top of it.

Leave it there, and wait a few days to a week. If it's salvagable, it'll start right up afterwards

If not, step two... and this one is RISKY.

Put it in the oven @ 125 degrees for 3-5 hours. It'll either finish drying out an start up, or it will be completely destroyed.

OP if it doesn't work and you have to replace it go to Best Buy. My friend was told their service agreement covered this kind of accident. She got her ds's replacement there just in case he left it in his pocket again.

Thank for all the great responses. I am going to put it in a tupperware container with rice and the silica bags.

My DS has really had a bad day. He had allergy and asthma testing. He is allergic to almost everything. I think of the 56 things, he was allergic to 46.

Here's hoping we can salvage his iPod.

oh youre right sorry. Cell phones is where I heard that trick. Im sure it would work for an Ipod though too without taking the back off.

My DS's went through the washer AND dryer and it works just fine! Just make sure to dry it out completely before pushing any buttons. DS's clearly had water on/under the screen and a few days of air drying and it was fine. He has one that plays videos and I got it refurbed from the Apple website, so I was impressed!

OP - I've gotta know if the rice trick worked! :worship:We just washed my son's iTouch last night and I immediately searched the internet for advice and found the rice trick. I put it in a ziplock bag last night and set it on a table under a desk lamp. I'm not going to touch it for a week and just hope for the best!

Did it work for you?
