Middle DS got mad because oldest DS wouldn't give him his ipod back so he picked up and locked Oldest DS' ipod nano. :rolleyes1

Big problem - we don't have the lock combination. :headache:

Does anyone know a way to unlock it without the combination or otherwise get the lock function turned off?

I tried searching ipod help on the apple website but that didn't help.

He has a 3rd generation nano if that makes a difference.

TIA

I'll ask my DD if she has any ideas.

Maybe it's just that I have a different generation iPod, but my lock is just a tiny round switch on the top that slides back-and-forth. If the bright-colored part shows, it's locked; there is no combination.

I am so not technically-minded. Just looked this up in iPod & iTunes for Dummies. It says that if you can't attach the iPod to the proper computer or enter the right numbers, then you have to restore the iPod to its factory settings. Apple can't reset the combination for you. Restoring the iPod erases the iPod's memory and it will have to be resynched from your computer's iTunes library. Talk to your oldest DS and make sure that he is able to resynch his iPod, and then get him to restore it to factory settings going through iTunes. Just a thought--have you tried to "crack" the code using birthdays and your house number as codes?

Just asked my DD, she has a third generation Nano and she said the same thing. It's just a little switch on the bottom, no codes.

Does it say for all ipods? If there is a code (and DD insists there's not but who knows) most factory settings are usually 0000 or 1234 so I'd try that first before setting the whole thing.
There has been many a time where DD has come to me panicked that she can't get her ipod to work and she's accidentally hit that little switch on the bottom. That's the first place I look whenever there's a problem.

There's the little switch on the bottom which is working fine.

There's also a combination for it that it's asking for - a four digit code. A little padlock and four digits and the words "enter combination" appear on the screen.

None of the numbers that he can think of open it. He thought the combination was his birth year, however; he just got it back after a long absence - he lost it when skiing back in January then got it back in the mail on Thursday. Someone may have played a trick and changed the combination on him.

We'll have to try as suggested above and reset it thru iTunes. Re-synching won't be a problem as everything on there is on our computer.

I'm still a little confused about how this all happened. One of your DS's wanted *his* IPod back and another DS had it. Other DS wouldn't give it back so One DS then locked Other DS's IPod.

If they're going to be so nasty about the IPods maybe they're not mature enough to have them for a while?...
But I'm not sure who should get punished for all this in the first place, like I said I'm confused.
