I just got DD's ipod - I would like to put a couple of her Cheetah Girls songs on there for her. I have 2 CD's with me at work and DON'T know how to do it.

Her 13yo Cousin will be at our house on Christmas day, so my niece can load up the ipod, but I would really like a few songs on there from Santa. Seeing that this is really her only gift, I think it'd be nice if she could use it and not have to wait until 3p for her cousin.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

First, you need to install iTunes onto your computer. After you have done that, put the CD in. iTunes will see it's there. I think it will ask if you want to import the songs. If not, on the left side of iTunes, it will show an icon of your CD. Click on it. It will have a list of the songs. Choose the ones you want and click import.

I am not at home, so I might have this just a bit off, but it should be pretty easy once you install iTunes.

you need to either install or download itunes (from apple.com or the CD that came with the ipod). The ipod will only link to one computer - so after you give her the ipod and she plugs it into your home computre, it will erase the songs that you have on it now. She can add them again with all the other ones. (its to prevent stealing music)

once you install itunes, you'll need to import the CD you want (there will be an import button on the itunes screen), then plug the ipod in - it should update it and you're done. since its the first time you're plugging it in you will have to go thru a registration process too.

I think you need to open a program like RealPlayer and upload/convert the songs you want into MP3 files, You should then be able to load and play them on the IPod. Then again, I don't actually have an IPod, so I could be wrong.

It shouldn't be too complicated though, and once you grok it, it'll be a snap. My best wishes are with you.

Wow, this is awesome info. I'm at work and I don't want this to be the computer link - I'm going to have to do it tonight from home. Thanks for this key info

All right I glad someone post that question. That means my little cousin damn is not using my computer for his IPOD because his too old. I have lot music that I have download from www.walmart.com that I can't afford to buy again.

Also, just a tip for when you want to import the songs: if you're connected to the internet at the time you insert the CD, iTunes will automatically access a database called CDDB (don't remember what it stands for at the moment) and will pull down the CD/track info for you, so you don't have to type the song/artist names into iTunes manually. If you don't have an active internet connection at the time you insert the CD, all iTunes will tell you is that it's an audio CD and will list the number of tracks on it, but not their names.

I know most people have always-on access, but my parents still have--sigh---dialup and I wind up having to remind my mom about this every time she tries to add new music to iTunes (when I get the "What did you kids do to iTunes?! Why doesn't it work anymore?!" phone call ;) )

Hmmm, some sort of CD DataBase called CDDB...whatever could that stand for?

First of all. You need to download Itunes 7.0. This Itune version allows you to port (i.e., transfer) purchased Itune music from one computer to another (with up to 5 IPOD users per computer).

Second, it is misleading to say that Itunes erases your songs from computer to computer. It depends on what CDs you upload to a particular computer as to what is in your music library.

In your instance, you can download Itunes at your current computer and upload 2-3 Cheetah Girl songs. Later, when you give the IPOD to your daughter, and don't have to "hide" Itunes on your computer at home, you can upload as many songs as you want from your current CD collection to the home computer Itunes and you can pick and choose what goes on the IPOD via playlists.

So, don't despair about Itunes automatically erasing or only allowing songs from one computer to the IPOD. It isn't that restrictive

^^^ This is incorrect.

The iPod will attach to up to 5 computers. Most people don't need to plug their iPod into more than that.

1) download iTunes (www.itunes.com)
2) install iTunes
3) Open your CD drive
4) put the cd in the drive
5) close the cd drive
6) copy the cd to your hard drive
7) plug in the iPod
8) drag the cds onto the iPod

You can make your settings so the iPod synchronizes each time it is plugged in or make it so you have to update it manually. I prefer the manual way since I have so music and don't want it all on my iPod. If it is set to auto synch and you plug it into another computer you could lose music that isn't on the second computer.

Thanks for the "ipod for dummies" instructions.....it worked, she now has 2 Cheetah Girls CD's all loaded up. Like I said, DD and her cousin can figure out the rest. Thank you everyone.
