New Nano.
I'm 21, and even though I really want to treat myself, I still think of the iPod touch as a luxury (and unnecessary) expense. I sound like an old woman when I say this, but I just don't understand kids these days. In my opinion, there is no reason for a 10-year-old to need or even want an iPod touch. If you start out giving things that extravagant at this age, what will have you to give him/her when they're 16? You'll be up to BMW level by then.
Your husband is right that the touch is the way of the future, but I think your child will be thrilled to get the Nano alone.

Dd used it for hers before she got her nano, and once I got it back the videos were taken off. I do like to be able to see what is playing, or to be able to search for a specific song, or playlist and I'm not sure the shuffle allows that.

) It is actually better than the DVD player in the car, which always seemed to be playing something.
