Inspired by a post from wdwprncess77, she wrote about an app that sounds interesting to me:

"Also, on my ipod touch I use an app called ITGO. It's an interval trainer that works with your own music. You can set that with some intervals and it will tell you either with a beep or with a voice to run/walk."

Right now, I have an iPod Shuffle. I like its "smallness", but I am wondering if I am missing out on the wonderful world of running apps. Which ones do you use (if any) and what do they do? I may "need" to run out and get a new iPod Touch!

I am using 3 apps. The first is called get running. It is a C25K app. It uses my own music and has voice prompts for when I switch to/from walking/running. The second app I use is called run coach pro. It let me input a race date and length, and it created a training plan for me. I have only used it to give me the plan so far, but I don't think I will use it for my actual day to day training.

For that I am using an app called run mate. It has some workouts preprogrammed, including the C25K from cool running. But it also let's me input my own training program. When I use it, it uses my own music and gives voice prompts for when to switch to/from running. I input a modified C25K and then the half marathon schedule from the previous app. It checks off when I complete the run.

You inspire me to run and I inspire questions about ipods. I think it's fitting as I'm much more techy than I am "runny". :rotfl2:

I'm excited to check out run mate. downloading now.

I just realized that I wrote "marathong" in my previous post. That's a whole different type of workout clothing.:rotfl: I edited it because I kept blushing when I read my typo.

I have four. The first is a couch to 5k app, allows my own music and has spoken prompts.

The second is Nike+ so I can track my workouts.

The third is just called Interval Run and I use it for longer runs and when I finished C25K. It lets you put in your intervals, however many different ones you want, use your own music, and gives either audio or spoken cues when to switch. I looked at ItGo but its intervals wouldn't go high enough for me -- in half marathon training I do 10 minutes running followed by two to three minutes of walking and ItGo wouldn't let me do that.

The fourth is more of a fun app, called CardioChallenge. It logs your workouts and times and you compete to finish various 5ks, half marathons, and marathons, and gives you medals depending on how long it took you to finish. They base it off real events and give you info about each one and the course, then gives you a various amount of time (a few days to a week I believe, and you don't have to finish in one session), and then awards you a gold, silver, or bronze medal. I've managed all golds and silvers so far :thumbsup2

I have the C25K app, its a green circle with a running person in it powered by Run Helper.

I also have the B210K app (Bridge to 10K) it is by the same guy and it was meant as an extension for those that completed the C25K. I have gone through that app but am going to revisit it again as I just want to improve. I've also been playing mental games with myself and lately can only go barely a mile without having to walk. Which has brought me to want to try the Galloway method but I still want to know I can run 6.2 without walking - but that is another thread...

I also have run coach (free version) and the runners world smart coach (free version) that I haven't tried out just yet but they were free so... I also bought the 1/2 marathon coach by run coach and haven't tried that yet either but it was only 99c and am going to start trying these out once I finish my B210K app again.

When I first started running I used the c25k which I loved. I then began training for the half in Jan so I downloaded some new apps. I have Motion Traxx for music, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this app. It has 60 min tracks that go by beats per minute and it really keeps me at pace and a much better pace than I was doing without it. I also have iMapMyRun which I use to look up my routes. You can use it to track your routes but I go online and map out my routes based on the distance I need to run for that day then when I open my app they are there and I can see what route I have to run for that day. For a training program I have The Runner's World SmartCoach. I put in what I'm training for and lenght of my program and it tells me what I have to run each week. It seems like a lot having the 3 different apps but I really like each one individually for what I get from them.
