I currently have a Verizon cell phone. My contract is up in October so it will cost me $100 to drop the contract now and $5 less each month I wait.

I have a simple Motorola phone that I got in October 2008 which is giving me a hard time charging both with the wall charger and the car charger. Yesterday I charged the phone for 2 hours and unplugged it to get my girls and the phone beep low battery. I tried to charge it in the car, didn't want to charge. Finally got it to charge. Of course during this time I missed calls.

So I'm thinking it is time to upgrade my phone. I can leave Verizon and switch over the iphone. DH has the iphone through his work and loves it. Or I can stay with Verizon and get the droid. What would you do? and why?

My opinion is a little biased because I have Verizon. But, I would upgrade to the Droid - hands down, no contest. Verizon has a lot better coverage than AT&T (at least in my area) and there's one huge thing about the Droid that makes it the obvious winner over the iPhone (to me, anyway) -- the QWERTY keyboard. I text a LOT and I much prefer a slide out or flip QWERTY keyboard than a touch screen keyboard. Plus, I've been really happy with Verizon's customer service and their in-store salespeople. I've always gotten a really good deal on phones by going into the store. :thumbsup2

I have an iPhone and I love it, but I know 2 people who have the Droid and love that too. If I were you I think I would stay with Verizon to avoid the cancellation fee and get the Droid.

A couple of weeks ago I would have said the Droid, but now that I have an iPhone, I love it! I'm getting used to the touch screen keyboard just fine and I love all the apps.

Saying that, a friend of mine has the Droid and it's awesome. Whichever you get, you will love it.

My DH has a Droid Eris and he loves it (so do I). It's super easy to use and has great coverage. He let me borrow it (I can't upgrade until March) for my WDW trip last month. I absolutely LOVED using the Lines site to check ride wait times and crowd calendars. It was great!!! :lovestruc I'm definitely getting one in March.

Another Droid Eris user here. I love the phone, it has great apps and is very easy to use. I chose this over the Droid because of the price. Many of my Droid-owner friends say that they never use the physical keyboard. The Eris keyboard is very easy to use and the seven screen layout is very customizable.

My Verizon contract is up in March and we are all going with the IPHONE. I have had Verizon since 2006 but in the last year, living in SoCal(since 2008), I have had soooo many dropped calls. Verizon sent me a new phone thinking it was the phone but sheesh, still happening. :headache:
Soooo, one of my DS' went to the IPHONE and loves it so we are following him. Actually, we are going to jump on his existing contract and it will reduce his bill as well as give us a nice discount. :thumbsup2
I looked at the Droid. It looks really nice but I have no opinion on it as I do not know anyone that has it.

In my area we have really good AT&T coverage. I have an iPhone and LOVE it. It is seriously the best thing I have ever bought.

My boss has a Droid and it is nice, but she says the aps on the iPhone are better. She prefers teh qwerty keyboard on the Droid though.

If you have great AT&T coverage in your area, I would go for the iPhone. If not, I think you will still be very happy with the Droid.

DH just got the Eris and loves it. It is really nice and it does a ton of stuff. He is a cel phone convert. He did not own one before and had to get one for work. He's really enjoying it. Maybe a little too much... I catch him looking at it all the time and adding apps and pictures

Unless AT&T gets really good service in your area, STAY WITH VERIZON.

The Droid really is a similar phone, and it's almost a done deal that Verizon will be carrying the iPhone at some point in 2010 - they just need to build it for Verizon's network.

Where i live, you pretty much HAVE to have Verizon; everyone who doesn't has awful service, as we only have a VZW tower in our town.

I think it's a valid argument right now that the iPhone does have better apps, but it will NOT remain that way for long. Anyone out there can develop an app for the droid (any Android), so on down the line, there will be so much more for any of the Google phones. One bad thing about that is, Apple does its homework and there are no kinks to work out after an app is released for the iPhone, whereas, Google doesn't get involved with that process.

Google has gone on the record in saying that once people learn how to operate one of their phones, you will understand how to operate ALL of them on down the line.

In my area, there really is no option of going with anyone but Verizon. I guess if your hubby has AT&T already, it must do well in your area. I'm sure if he had a lot of dropped calls, you wouldn't have come here asking for opinions. So, all I can say is, you probably won't be disappointed with either phone right now.

One thing I would add though is, I wouldn't worry too much about paying the $100 to cancel your contract with Verizon if you decide to go with AT&T. The price difference for the iPhone vs. the Droid would be much better with a new contract. At the end of the day, it will be less expensive to pay that $100 and get the deal on the iPhone (I'm not sure which phone you want), than it would be to buy a Droid outright. Heck, it might even be cost effective to pay the $100 to cancel the current contract and buy the Droid under the terms of a new contract. You're not talking about cheap phones here.

I have an iPhone 3GS and absolutely love it. It is, hands down, the best device I've ever owned. I switched to it from a BlackBerry Bold 9000, which I had switched to from a BB Curve. The AT&T network is flawless in my area and has been pretty much everywhere I've been since owning it, with the exception of my parents' house; to be fair, though, no one has decent coverage there.

The iPhone does everything I need it to do and it enabled me to sell both my Bold and iPod Touch (consolidating devices), so I ended up making back more than enough to cover the cost of the iPhone. And I fully intend to unlock it (it's already jailbroken) and sell it this summer to get the new model when it's launched. I'm an addict, and I have no problem with that. :lovestruc

Thank. I love hearing from people who have used both.
I think the verizon salesman told me I could get the droid at the upgraded price instead of full price.

I am very torn on what to do. I have a very big itunes library, and have no clue how I could get that on the droid. Plus I need to get a new ipod, so if I get the iphone I wouldn't have to get an ipod.

My DH has a new droid and he loves it. We had AT&T, but the coverage was so spotty, they let us out of our contract (yes with no fees, it was that bad!). He's always finding new things to do with that thing, he was scanning items today at Sam's club

Verzion salesfolks have alluded that the Iphone may be coming their way this spring...;) . I need a new phone too. I'm not leaving Verizon. Made that terrible mistake once for sprint:scared1:. I'm going to wait until this spring to see if it's true. If not, I'll get a Droid or other Verizon phone.

Another Verizon customer.. and I had had nothing but good things to say about them and especially the customer service..I bought a Motorola Droid in late November.. My kids got droids too.. they took to it like a duck to water.. It took me a bit longer to learn it.. but I went to a verizon free class and that helped.. it really am not good with a touch screen and love the Qwerty keyboard.. i use it all the time..
