This is a really silly question but here it goes....and thank is advance...

I want to join the iphone collective...Can you go to an Apple store, buy an iphone and get the carrier all set up?

I think AT&T is the only carriers in US. With all the decisions we have to make for our move to the US...house, two cars, schools etc...I told my husband I want an iphone becuase all the Podcasters and board regulars have them.(and I know Kevin is always right and he loves his iphone, and John is a genius and he has one:))

Will it be simple for him to go to the store and leave with it working? He is headed down on Monday and needs a cell asap.

Moving to a new country with a 3 month old is doing my head in but my DIS friends are really helping out.:)

When you walk out of the store, you will have a functioning phone. You can also order it online at the Apple store, or go to an AT&T store to get the phone.

They make it very easy - just know what you want before you go. You'll love the iPhone!

Everyone I know who got one was in and out of the Apple store. Bing, bang, boom.

But, as seems to always be the case, I had a difficulty. And it was the #1 difficulty I have when purchasing anything fun...my credit card company held it up because they had to be sure it was me. :faint: I had to get on the phone and take one of those quizzes where they ask you the address of the place you worked in high school and the date you lost your virginity and all of that.

I passed and I got my phone. Other than that, it was very easy. They even transferred my number and all that and I didn't have to do anything myself except cancel with Verizon (and pass the "Are you yourself?" quiz.)

Ok...this made me laugh.:)

Thanks everyone. That is just what I was hoping...idiot proof is the way I need stuff for the next few weeks.

I hope I don't have to take the test because at this point I barely know my name.:lmao:

I look forward to playing with all the fun apps people have been talking about.

:rotfl: Now I know what my secret question is going to be next time I'm asked to create one :rotfl:

I got mine at Best Buy (no apple store close) and it was very easy. They even followed up the next week to make sure I had figured out how to use it!

I've gotten iPhones from both AT&T and from Apple without any problems. With AT&T I got a 35% off Bing Cash Back promotion back in June on a new 3GS. With Apple I got $30 off Mobile.Me. I though AT&T got the iPhone to me quicker. Either one will do a good job in getting you the iPhone, it would probably be best to purchase it from who ever has the closest store to you in case you need help once you get it. Good Luck.
