Good Evening to you all,

I am a 56 year young mother and grandmother who is in need of a new phone. I have a "dumbphone" and am considering a "smartphone". I am am looking for a good easy to use phone that I can txt, talk, take a pics if I don't have my camera with me and access the internet if need be. I would like the "GPS" thing on it too as it is nice if you are traveling. We go to WDW or do something "Disney" every two years. :)

There are features that I love on them both but am having a very difficult time trying to decide. I don't own a Mac computer, however I would love to get a ipad or another table that is comparable to it. :confused3

My family is divided between android an iphones and since I have never owned a smartphone I have nothing to compare one to the other.

Any help, advice, insight or reviews you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. :thumbsup2

We are a family that only uses Apple products. We have found them easy to use. Quality is superb. We have even gotten our parents who are in their later 60's and my DW's grandmother who is in her 90's using an iPhone! Pictures are easy to take and send. You gotta love getting a text message and a picture from a 90 something grandmother who lives 10 hours away! (Yes, phone calls are better.) Customer service is topnotch too. Also, if you are considering a tablet, the iPad is wonderful! Easy to navigate with. Good luck with whatever you choose!

My whole family owns iPhones. We love them and I don't see us switching any time soon. I've owned several versions on the phone, never had a problem with any. My mother, went from a standard flip phone to an iPhone and can't live without it now. I swear she send more texts messages than me!

I love my Samsung S4. The camera is fabulous (13mp) and has a few cool modes. It has one that will let you erase things that move across the screen while you are taking a picture. I hope that one works well because it'll come in handy in Disney. You can also take pictures by saying "cheese" or "shoot" instead of touching the screen.

I have several Samsung products and am always pleased with the quality.

I just went to the store to upgrade my phone. I had an iPhone 4S and my daughter had the 4. She wanted to look at the galaxy before she decided. The salesman talked us out of the iPhone5. He said the samsung is a much better phone, camera and a ton more things to do on it compared to the apple. And apple is going to cost alot more $$$. Insurance is even higher. So we decided to give it a try. (we had 14 days to decide).

I am getting used to the droid phone again. It was a little frustrating at first because we are so used to apple products. We have a mac computer, multiple ipods and a ipad. But I think I will enjoy the samsung better than apple. Pictures and video are far more brighter, clearer and faster taking than the iphone. And a lot more apps are free compared to apple. And I LOVE the bigger screen!

A couple of people at work have also made the switch back to droid from apple and are very happy.

I guess if its a budget ? than the samsung is a far better deal with an equally good (if not better according to the phone guy) smartphone than iphone.

Good luck with your decision!

To the Op: Do you have an Apple store convenient to you? If so, you will not find comparable help for the Samsung. Take one of the free iPhone classes, ask questions that start with " how do I .. .?" and bring it in when ii is doing something wonky. -- Suzanne

Well put. DW just switch to the s4 and aside from the learning curve loves it. DD is switching from 4s to S4 next week.

My son loves his Samsung. Not so sure I do, though. He seems to always be doing something else on it when we talk-like texting friends, reading news, and even typing up forms for where he works, so he isn't always listening to me and seems distracted. Grrrr I guess that's par for the course on any smart phone, though.

Iphone!! I had an android before my iphone. Iphones are very user friendly and easy! My mom went from a basic phone to a smart phone and she loves hers also. She had no trouble getting use to it.

I got my s3 and then they released the s4 :(
But i LOVE my s3. I watch my dd have constantly have issues with her apple products. I would never go to iphone. I love this thing. I think google play has far more available than itunes. I found the s3 to be very easy to figure out. It is my first smartphone and within a couple days i was in love.
But there is a group of apple lovers, and the android lovers ;)

An iPhone will do everything you want/need in a smartphone.

As an added bonus, the learning curve is very light. My parents (age 70) just got iphones and can figure them out easy. If they get stumped, they can ask someone in the room and most nearly anyone can help.

My aunt (same age) has a Motorola Android phone. Someone at the att store convinced her it was "better" than an iphone. That may or may not be the case, but she never knows how to do anything on her phone!

Another reason my parents went the iphone route is text messages. The people they mainly text are each other or their kids/grandkids. Most of us have iphones so the texts come through as "i-messages" not text messages.

This means they are free! They didn't have to pay $30 for unlimited texting. The few texts they get from non-iphones are 20c each and in the end costs them less than $5/mo for random texts from non-iphones.

Another feature they like is the "find my iPhone" or "find my friend" app. A quick check and they can see where their spouse is. (Or at least where their spouse's iphone is!) It's nice to check in and see "oh he's 30 min away" before making dinner.

You can get the iphone 4 for free with 2 yr contract.

Love my android... the big screen (5.3) and the back button, something my iphone didn't have. I was a total apple person, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad... now android only. like some else said as well... there are more free apps on the android, and you can get them from more than one marketplace.

DD#2 has a Galaxy 3 and does NOT like it.
Maybe the later models are a little better.
My other dkids have IPhones and love them.

Another thing I love about my Samsung is the screen is so big and clear. Its much easier to use the kindle app for reading than I thought it would be.
My old phone had a smaller screen and I never used it for reading. The big screen makes a difference for me.

iPhone!!! My husband and I both have the iPhone 4S. The phone is very user friendly. This is my favorite phone out of all I've had. I've never had an issue with iPhone.

If you have never had a smartphone, I think you'd be happier with an iPhone. It's much easier to learn how to use than an Android phone.

I have them both (1personal & 1 work) and for me the iPhone is far superior. Much more user friendly, better screen, love iTunes :)
