I tried, but it errored in the "select a store for pickup", so I gave up,, but then got an email later telling me to pick it up on the 19th at my "selected store". Go figure. And now I can't, of course, get thru on the phone unless I want to be on hold for "1-2 hours".
Sigh.
Try again on-line when you get a chance. Last night I kept getting the same emails you're getting, because there was a problem with the Apple website. Finally about 9 PM they took the ordering site down for "maintenance", according to a message on the page. About 9:30 PM the site was back up error-free and allowed me to complete the pre-order process, including picking out the particular model, color, data plan changes (I do not currently have a data plan at all), etc. and finally accepting credit card info. It gave me an order #, but no confirmation email at first, so I just printed out the order # page for safekeeping. I got the order confirmation email this morning.
