iPhone Fan's Today Is The Day!

:woohoo:
Insert happy dance here! DH is eligible for work discount on plan, too!!:yay:

So it looks like the new iPhone 3GS will be availabel on June 19th. 32GB $299 and 16GB $199. Features of the new phone will be an upgraded camera that can also take video and longer battery life. Also all of the features of the new OS3.0 such as MMS and copy and paste.

Also the current iPhone 3G will still be available in a 8GB version that will cost $99.

And for us folks that are not upgrading our phones the new OS3.0 will be available on June 17th. Free for iPhones and a cost of $9.95 for iPod Touch.

Man I hope I work at Apple on release day, it looks like it will be MADDNESS!

So any of you DIS'rs that live near Short Pump Mall in Richmond, Va, come out and see me on the 19th I should be there for the evening shift, starting at 5:30pm;)

It's a "must have" for me... just wish I could get off AT&T!!!!:badpc:

I want one of these iPhones so bad! But I don't want AT&T!

What say you? Suck it up? Or wait?

I should add that I have use of a Blackberry through work for all my phone needs, so this would be a true luxury (at this point) for me!

Will the store be reopened by then???? Still not happy I had to drive to Norfolk this Saturday to get my Mac fixed, and I have to go back to pick it up...Grrrrr

Ok, I don't live in VA, but here's a question for you....

How do you pre-order/get 2 iPhones for a family plan?:confused3 I went to the Apple website and the info is vague...an asterisk saying blah, blah go here and reserve....in store...but nothing further unless you go thru the whole credit card/ssn process.
thanks!

i don't understand AT&T. why do they make the iphone cheaper for new customers than loyal customers. i just went to the apple website to see the price if i were to preorder the phone. because i bought the 3g iphone on release day last year, i'm eligible for upgrading my phone for $499 (32GB). the iphone only costs $299 for everyone else. i don't get it.
Also, apparently i must be getting a deal at $499 because here's what it says on the apple website
Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB).

There is something like an 18-month or 2-year window before you become eligible for "upgrade pricing" with AT&T, after you've upgraded phones previously. For example, I just became eligible for the cheaper pricing with AT&T in May (I've been an AT&T wireless customer about 6 years now), because I got myself a new Nokia phone about 18 months ago. That 18-month window expired in May, and now I'm eligible for the "upgrade pricing". You might call your local AT&T store to confirm, but I suspect this is what is going on with you now.

As for me, I'm going to the AT&T store after 5 PM today (not allowed to do it before, according to local rep on the phone a minute ago), and pre-ordering my 16GB black iPhone 3GS! :cool1:

Sorry about that, but hey Norfolk on a sunny day:cool1:

The Short Pump Store re-opens on this Friday the 12th.

we have a family plan, so it would be cheaper to cancel my contract ($175) and buy 2 32GB iphones ($299) than it would cost to renew my current contract and purchase 2 iphones ($499). i don't care about many of the new features (most you can get with the free 3.0 software upgrade). i just wanted a 32GB iphone. i have 20GB of music, so only being able to put around 11GB of music on my current phone is annoying. i'll probably just wait til i can get it for cheaper. it's not worth $700 to be able to have some more songs in my pocket.

Just returned from getting mine PREORDERED!!!!

My fiance and I were the first 2 preordered at our store. I had to help some of the new reps figure out how to do it, since no one told us this was coming :scared1:

Go and preorder yours so you don't have to wait in line!

This is all true. AT&T subsidizes the price of a phone for you once every 12, 18, or 20 months depending on how much your plan costs ($100+, 70-100, <$70 respectively) If you bought an iPhone 3G on launch day then the earliest you are eligible is July 11th 09. I know to preorder mine I had to use my father's upgrade eligibility to get it for the $199 price. It sucks, I know... I hear about it all day

The more I think about it, the less impressed I am by this 'announcement'...

:goodvibes

You can also pre-order them on-line. I did mine today. I just got the regular shipping. Not that much in a hurry. I still have the 1st gen version so I'm just happy to have something faster

Just pre-ordered mine on-line last night as well. But man, oh man, the Apple website was not prepared for the rush. I wasn't able to get through the pre-order process without erroring out until about 9:30 PM.

For what it is worth, I completely agree with you. To reward people for NOT being customers is stupid. My little brother can come in having never been a customer and get an iPhone for cheaper than I can after being a customer for 8 years and that is stupid.

So stupid that I told them so and basically was seriously ready to switch carriers - I was in the Cellular South store when the AT&T supervisor called back - that they made it right.

I still had to pay the full price right then for the iPhone, but they credited by account the difference in the price my little brother paid and the price I paid.

So, they DO have the ability to make it even - if they want to.

I tried, but it errored in the "select a store for pickup", so I gave up,, but then got an email later telling me to pick it up on the 19th at my "selected store". Go figure. And now I can't, of course, get thru on the phone unless I want to be on hold for "1-2 hours".

Sigh.
