iPhone - Does anyone have one and ...

Sorry, but a couple of nits. The version of the iPhone I don't think is 3G. It's just iPhone 3 and 4 is the current model. 3G is the communications system which is a couple years old with 4G coming out now. 4G is much faster than 3G. I believe iPhone 5 will support 4G when it's released later this year. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think we're talking about a couple of different things:

The device names: the very first iPhone was just called 'iPhone', and was released in 2007. The 2008 model was called 'iPhone 3G', the 2009 model was the iPhone 3GS, and the 2010 (current) model is the iPhone 4.

I know that the term '3G' refers to a cellular transmission standard, but it was also used in the name of the device itself, I believe because it was the first iPhone to support that cellular standard.

OP, I see you're looking at the 3GS, not the 3G. The 3GS will run the current version of the iOS operating system (4.3.2), but I wouldn't expect the next major upgrade of iOS to support the 3GS, particularly once the next generation of the iPhone comes out later this year.

I have the 3Gs 16GB and I max my space out and I'm not a 20 year old kid with loads of music. 8GB is probably too small for her.

I've been holding off on our upgrades waiting to see if a newer phone is released this year.

You've all been a huge help. :thanks:

I think I will talk her out of this particular iPhone and see if she wants a Droid. Some are available for "free". We could swap phones for her to try it and see if she likes it before committing to one.

FWIW, my daughter wanted an iPhone in the worst way. I kind of strong armed her into the Thunderbolt. Other than horrible battery life, which I've been told all smart phones have, she has no regrets. Even her friend and friend's mom, who both have iPhones, like our Thunderbolts. OTOH, one of the reasons I pushed the Thunderbolt is because I DON"T want DD to be using it as an iPod. I don't want to hear that every time I try to reach her, her battery is dead because she was listening to music on it.
