iphone 5 verizon can't call out or receive call

Okay, brought an iphone 5 for my daughter around thanksgiving, she told me suddenly she can't call out or receive call.
She said she has dropped it twice since she owned the phone, but there were no crack that we can see, we purchased through walmart..does anyone know whether it is still under any warranty or what can we do to have it fixed

we use the edge shared everything plan

also have your tried to turn it off completely and give it a few minutes and turn it back on and see if it works?
sometimes thats all it takes.

there's no way for us to know if its still under warranty.
you'd have to look at your paper work and/or contact walmart.

Try taking the battery out for a few minutes then reinstall it and power on

You can also try a reset. Hold down the power button and the home button at the same time for 10 to 15 seconds. It will restart, then see if you can make calls.

you can't take the battery out of an iphone unless you have the tools to do it.
you'd have to take it to an apple store.

Well my daughter had the same issue and then I discovered the SIM card was missing. It must have fallen out one time it got dropped and the back came off. Of course her's was a cheap'o phone.

iphones don't have SIM cards.
they have internal memory only so this would not be the case for OP.

Try connecting it to the computer with the usb cord. Also, do you have a case on it? If so take it off and try. My iPhone frozen recently and we took the otterbox off and it worked. I'm guessing it was holding a button I . I've had my phone for 2 years and seldom had problems.

That's not true. It was true of the verizon iphone 4. My AT&T iPhone 4 has one. That's how I use it on straight talk.

The SIM card is very small and fits in a tray which is accessed with use of a tool. It's not something that is going to fall out.

Did Walmart set the phone up for you and install the SIM card?

As others have said, the first thing you should try is power the phone all the way off. I have a 4 and one night I was leaving work and found my car battery was dead. I tried calling AAA and I couldn't get my phone to send a call out to anyone. Great timing, right? I finally calmed down and thought things through. I powered the phone off and then restarted it. It worked just fine. My son had the same issue with his ipod touch years ago and I called apple. That is what they told me to do and it worked.

Do you have an Apple Store nearby? Just go online to apple.com and schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar. They'll look at the phone, try to fix it, and replace it if they can't.

Not sure what is wrong but you have 30 days from the day you bought it to buy AppleCare Plus if you don't currently have it.

This is a list of things to do to try to fix this issue. I had a recent issue with my 4 where I couldn't connect to the internet if I was off wifi. It took going through the entire list (and it was a longer list, took a total of four hours including updating software and restoring the phone), but I ended up having to reset my network settings and it worked.

Try the basic things listed here. Check that you're not in airplane mode, turn it off and back on, etc. Then call Verizon.

DD's iphone wouldn't text. It was fine with imessage, but couldn't text anyone who didn't have an Apple phone. The Verizon rep walked me through many, many troubleshooting steps and was so nice!

It ended up being something wrong with the set up on their switch and a specialist had to fix it on their end. That took a couple of days because it was Thanksgiving weekend. (I'm guessing the guy who knew how to fix that was probably off.) If it had been something more simple that the troubleshooting could fix, it would have been faster.

She even walked me through removing and replacing the SIM card. No special tool, just a paper clip. It was no big deal. It does not void your warranty, the tray is designed for that.
