What case do you recommend - good protection, but lightweight. I'm not usually a rough user, but certainly have the occassional drops and oops. Thanks,

I bought a case for my iPhone 4s (but they make them for iPhone 5 too) called "Lifeproof." I have to tell you, it is AWESOME!

I'm normally very frugal and would never consider spending what I spent on this case, but I figured it was an investment as I don't invest in phone insurance. I thought of it as a pre-paid insurance plan on an expensive phone!

The case is waterproof, dirt proof, drop proof, etc. I've had it for a few months and so far I've dropped my phone in the toilet (fully submurged) and slammed it in my car door when I was wearing a long sweater and it was hanging out of the car door. When I dropped it in the toilet was the first time I got to see if it REALLY was waterproof and I was skeptical! However, when I took the case apart, the phone did not have one drop of water on it! I also let my kids (especially 6 year old son) play on it ALL THE TIME and don't worry about if he's going to spill a drink or anything. I do have to wipe the screen because he manages to get it sticky, of course!

I paid $80 at the Sprint store for the case. :( BUT...you can find them on Ebay or other places online. I know someone who said she got one online for $40, but when I held/felt hers...I questioned its authenticity because it feels different.

It is really light weight and just awesome all around. I highly recommend it!

I second the Lifeproof! DH just got one for is iPhone5 from Best Buy because he is so hard on his phones! I don't feel like it made the phone bulky and it definitely has taken its fair share of falls already and there isn't a scratch or dent to be seen. It is pricey but so is replacing a phone when the screen cracks!

Mophie pack...well protected from drops and functions as an external battery pack that doubles the life of your battery. My favorite part about it is that I never have to remove phone from case...I can charge both the phone battery and external pack with the same charger.

DBF has an Otterbox, he's hard on his phones so we felt it was worth it. And yes, he has insurance as well. lol

I recently got the I-phone 5 and bought the lifeproof case. I got mine at Best Buy where they matched the best online price we could find of $60. It has survived a few drops (I'm clumsy)!

I've got an Otterbox Commuter with a screen protector. I don't like the bigger otterbox cases because it takes what's a slim phone and turns it into an inch-thick monstrosity.

I have only had the phone a few days tho, and I haven't dropped it. I used to drop my Droid X2 all the time, so we'll see how this one holds up. (Didn't even have a case on the X2. Never even scratched it.)

I love the Griffin ones. Bought my hot pink one at Target. They're about $20 less than the otter box ones. I'm not a fan of the thinner otter box models. A lot of my friends that have opted for the thinner styles have had them tear on them.

So mine is the thicker version, but I AM worried about protecting it, since I did fork out the $ for the 64 GB version. I want it safe.

My husband just got his iPhone 5 last week and we bought an Otterbox defender for it. He wanted the lifeproof case but the person at Best Buy told us he'd heard about some defects with the iPhone 5 case and that they'd had several people come in and buy a defender while they waited for lifeproof to replace or fix the issues.

Best Buy ended up having an open box (that had all the parts in it) and was $15 less than the original price. Score!

DD got an iPhone5 this week and we went to Best Buy because our Verizon store no longer carried the Griffin case she wanted.

Best Buy didn't have it either, but the clerk told me they would price match Amazon, so she got an OtterBox Defender for $24.20 (BB price was $49.99).

At least I know it is safe!

The otterbox case that I have has the rubber cover with a hard plastic cover over it, so I'm not sure how it could tear. I guess the "plugs" for the headphone jack and power jack could tear off. But this is a two-layered case.

Check out the Ballistic cases. They have videos on their website where they drop phones off buildings and out of moving cars.

They recently came out with some that are thinner and still as protective. My son has a 4s with a thin Ballistics case on it and he's dropped it and it's fine.

I had a thicker Ballistics case on my phone and I accidentally bounced it down the sidewalk. All was well.

Life proof all the way without a doubt I don't know about you but I didn't pay regular price for my iPhone but if I drop in water or break I would be out at 400- 500 for a new phone! Invest in life proof, you can find on eBay too!

Otterbox Defender. It saved my iphone5 when I was in a rollover accident a couple of months ago. I had the phone recharging and it ended up under the roof of the car. I could follow the cord to see where it was but I couldn't pull it out until the tow truck moved the car. The case was a little scuffed but but the phone was just fine.
