iPhone - 3G $99...Do I do it???

Both my DH and I have IPhones. He just upgraded to a 3Gs, and I have the 3G 8 gb (soon to get a 3Gs in Jan '10). The battery life is eh, but it really depends on the apps you use. For instance, the IPod on the phone hardly uses battery at all, but if you use something liek Pandora (GREAT app, btw) it really eats up the batt life and you end up having to charge it that eve or the next day for sure. I turn my IPhone off at night before bed to save battery.

Most of the games, apps (besides Pandora and other radio apps) don't use much battery...neither does using the actual phone. W/o using the heavy duty apps you would be re-charging approx once or twice a week. Using the big time apps you would need to charge more often. But it doesn't take too long to fully charge.

Great phone! Yes, the typing gives some people trouble. I don't have long nails so I do fine with it. Otherwise, At&T gets on my nerves sometimes but really, it is a wonderful phone/toy. I made fun of DH when he first got his but now I have mine and I love it.

I have the old iPhone 3G and love, love, LOVE it! Sure, it's a bit slow, but it does everything I need it to do and I adore it. I can't believe how much I use it and when (standing in a store trying to figure out if a sale price is REALLY a sale price, for instance, using it to negotiate a better cash deal on a item since I can verify - instantly - whether I can just order the same item for less off the 'net, etc.).

So - along with all the others - I say, if you can swing the data plan and all, GO FOR IT!! BTW, we get a discount through our employer on the phone plan. For 1100 minutes, with my iPhone w/data plan, DH's Rugby, and two phones for my parents, our monthly bill is around $140.00. Not too bad. :) Of course, poor DH doesn't get data. :rotfl:

Okay, I'm now convinced that I NEED one of these phones!!:lmao: Seriously, how have I done without one for so long?? :rotfl:

I'm trying to decide between the 16GB 3G ($149) or the 16GB 3GS ($199). I just don't know if having the voice command is worth $50 (although I do use it on my Razor phone daily...so maybe it is...). I don't care about a camcorder feature (although I'll probably use it if I have it...) Uh oh! I think I've just talked myself into the 3GS.... :scared1:

What kind of budget board IS this????? Hahahaha! :goodvibes

Can you watch TV on these phones?

We have AT&T and DH wants my eternity because it has mobileTV. He wants to be able to watch yankee games at work.

Does anyone know if it's possible on the iphone?

And definitely get a scratch proof cover for the touch screen. I know the one he got is guaranteed not to scratch but I cannot remember the name of it.

The scratch-proof screen is made by ZAGG. It can be bought at Best Buy for a decent price. They will also install it for you. It is not difficult to do, but they will make sure that there are no bubbles left under it to cause problems. The only drawback is that it leaves the touchscreen feeling rubbery. But it works and that is the only thing that matters IMHO.

The Otterbox Defender is different for the 1st Gen and iPhone 3G because of the size of the unit. The 3G and 3GS are the same size so the Defender 3G case will work for the 3GS. I have dropped mine in the Wal-Mart parking lot, in the store, walking around the mall. I am fairly clumsy. I highly recommend getting a hard case that will protect the phone, not just a silicone cover for it.

Dh finally got an iphone, the 3Gs for father's day and he absolutely loves it. For the $50 difference between the the 3G and 3Gs, i'd say upgrade. Technology is always changing and you might as well have the newest one since you're committed to the phone for 2 years. I'm not sure if you have kids but dh has loved the video option. Dd had her dance recital this past Sunday and he was able to record it and email to the grandparents who were unable to attend.

What's the biggest difference between the $99 and the $199 iPhones? Does the cheaper one not do any videos at all?

Thanks!

I noticed you're from Maine, I live on the midcoast and I remember someone with an iphone saying a year or so back that the AT&T coverage around here wasn't all that great but maybe it's improved...as long as you're in an area where the coverage is good then I'd say go for it...$99 seems like a good price. I have Verizon, I never lose calls and there's been some nice smartphones released lately with more to come over the next few months, just trying to decide which one to get when I'm up for renewal in December!!

Jeanne -

You're right - AT&T service is crap where I am - but, we bit the bullet and got iPhones anyway! Right in Ellsworth proper, service is fine (which is where we live). I work on MDI - absolutely NO service out that way (but I didn't really have too much service out there with US Cellular anyways...).

The rumor (from AT&T) is that Ellsworth should have 3G by March - here's hoping to that!! :thumbsup2

Oops, just realized this thread is a few months old.

So you bit the bullet, good for you!!:thumbsup2
