Hi,

Has anyone used their own Ipass/EZ pass in their rental car? I know mine is good in Florida but I wasn't sure about registering it properly with make/model/license plate. Can I just call someone at home to change the info on-line when I pick up my car? Not a big deal if I don't use it but if I can, it's so much faster.

thanks!

I-Zoom, I-Pass, EZ-Pass, and Fast Lane are currently not honored in Florida.

You would need a Florida transponder for use in Florida (Sunpass or E-pass, or one other I forget its name).

As far as the northeast quadrant* goes, anyone can buy a transponder from any participating state. But the rules on moving one transponder from one car to another vary depending on what state issued the transponder. I'm told that Massachusetts transponders (Fast Lane) require changing over to a different car such as an insurance and repair rental, and changing back if applicable.

* East of the Mississippi and north of the Carolinas.

Sunpass is good on just about every toll in Florida, there's a couple E-pass tolls on the Beachline in Orlando but you can use Sunpass to go through those.

thanks - Mine is an Ipass (Illinois) and it does allow for use in multiple vehicles (as long as they are registered on-line) and I knew it was good for 11 +/- states (I have also used it in IN, MA, and NY) but I forgot Sun Pass is not included. Oops. I knew this board was the right place to ask. :-) I guess I'll just use my film canister of coins like always.

When I've rented a car in Florida, it has always been equipped with a SunPass. I get a separate charge on my credit card. There is also a couple dollar "convenience" carge per day...but well worth it.

I bought a Sun Pass a couple years ago and have used it on a rental car. I will be bring it with me on our November trip, too.

I purchased a SunPass just for use when in FL. I registered my Texas car and haven't changed it when it use it in a rental car and have no problems doing so.
