We are still SO on the fence about this. I do know that I want one she can use for several years so I don't think I want one that is targeted to children. We have run the gamut....it started as a Kindle Fire, then the Ipod Touch and so on and so forth. But if I'm going to spend the money I want to get the right product. UGH!! Thanks for all the input. I think I'm leaning back towards the tablet...but not an Ipad?? I know the Fire has limitations - can you get Angry Birds for it? Can anyone give me the skinny on the Kindle Fire??
We have all the gadgets...Ipads, IPhones, and DD11 got a Kindle Fire for her bday. I tried getting DD8 a cheaper Droid based tablet that got good reviews on CNET, and it was HORRIBLE! I sent it back right away.
User interface was not intuitive at all, and that really means so much to a kid. It HAS to be easy to use, or it, well...won't get used!

) And it did not pick up our WIFI easily in other parts of the house.
As much as I love DH's IPad, I really gravitate to the Fire for DD. It can do anything you want a tablet to do, within reason. Lots of typical apps, lots of free ones. We have an ITunes library with most of those songs on our Cloud drive on
Amazon. Once I linked the FIRE to my Amazon account it imported 250 songs onto the Fire with just a touch or two! So easy, and now there is a limited music library on it.
So, I ended up getting another Fire for DD8 for her birthday. For $159, it can do everything a kid would want, and they can grow into it and use it for years.
Again, I am not a big Droid person. I love the intuitive nature of Apple and Kindle. Kindle is so similar to IPads, and easy to use, IMO.
Hope that helps!
