Hi, DISers... my DH got me the new ipad for my birthday. :cool1: He could only find the 16gb but said if I want to try to exchange for the 32gb to do so, but of course I also will have to pay more for it. If you have an ipad, which do you have and do you think I am ok with the 16gb? TIA!!! :goodvibes

The size you need depends on how you will use your iPad. I have a 32G iPad 2 and I am happy with that amount of storage space. You can load a number of movies, music and many apps. 16G is too small for me.

Do you plan on using it to store several movies, over 1000 songs, TV shows, 1000's of pictures and other memory sucking items all at the same time? If you do then I'd say get the bigger one.

BUT I don't store more than one movie on my iPhone, and really only have a few playlists from my iTunes acct uploaded. I also stream from Netflix so I don't really need the extra space. I wouldn't get bigger than the 16gig.

Thanks for the responses! I can always count on fellow DISers when I have a question! :goodvibes

Currently on my iPad 2 I have:

10.8gb Music (1,277 songs)
487mb Podcasts
4.5gb Movies (All 3 Bourne Movies, Horrible Bosses and Aladdin)
4.1gb TV (3 1-hour episodes from iTunes)
roughly 6gb Apps (roughly 71 apps)
roughly 2gb in books, pictures, other.

I only have 876mb left.

Do I look, listen or watch all this stuff all the time? No...but it's nice to have the space when I go on vacation with the kids.

Keep in mind as well that now that there's the cloud, you'll have an extra 5gb of storage on top of the 16gb (okay in reality it's only 12 or so). I'd say you'd be fine with the 16gb.

I have over 16gb downloaded and actually had to delete some things on my 32gb to fit what I wanted.

The iPad 3 supports hd, and the apps are going to be getting bigger. Some in the industry think three times bigger. I think the 32 will be limited in a year.

I would definitely upgrade to at least the 32gb if you can afford the price difference. I have a 64gb and am SOOOO glad I purchased the largest size because we like to keep a couple of movies on it when we travel, plus apps and such...they really add up. We don't use it for music so we could have dropped down to the 32gb in reality, but we plan on keeping ours until it completely dies so we figured it was best to get the largest size. If you decide you want music, books, movies, photos, etc on your ipad you will want the 64gb.

Not to hijack the thread, but I am also trying to decide which size to buy. Can't you just store extra things on iCloud? I know you only get 5gb free with iCloud, but you can buy more storage.

I probably will only keep 1 or 2 movies on the ipad when I travel, which is only on vacation about once a year. I might keep a little music on there. I do want to have apps.

Don't let Apple hear you call the New iPad the iPad 3!

You make a good point about the greater resolution of the new iPad. I have read a number of articles about apps getting bigger and forgot about that. If I were getting the New iPad, I would definitely go for at least 32G.

It's true you can store stuff in the cloud, but your free space is really small and you need a wi-fi connection to access it. If you are traveling (which is where my iPad gets a lot of use), you won't be able to easily access it. It can also be difficult to stream stuff using wi-fi when traveling; lots of hotels with "free" wi-fi limit the speed, so it's impossible or very annoying to watch movies this way.

I prefer to have a lot of space to store movies, apps and music directly on my iPad.

I dock and move stuff around often so anything bigger than the smallest size to me is a waste of money. That goes for my phone or my pad. Moving stuff isn't rocket surgery, but I guess that is why they make the big ones for the lazy people.

I guess my issue with docking and moving stuff is that the iPad would be my first major Apple product. I do have an older version of the iTouch that does have a few apps but nothing major. I use iTunes on my PC, which I guess I could keep and just move music back and forth between the PC and iPad.

Moving stuff is easy, you'll have it down pat in 3 try's. The only time I can see a legit reason for all that storage is when you don't have acsess to your PC for long periods of time, other than that I'd find a better way to spend that capicty dough.

Mine is the 32. I filled my 16 gig iPhone so fast that I was afraid the 16 would be too small. I have tons of aps on it, and tons of space. In retrospect, I could easily have gotten by with the 16 because I didn't put much music on it. I use the Homeshare feature quite a bit so that decreases how much I need to put on it as well.
