Was looking at the 11 inch iPad Pro 2020 now looking at the new 10.9 inch iPad Air 2020 which was released yesterday has anyone got any thoughts?

we got the 12.9 iPad Pro and magic keyboard. Has all the benefits of an iPad but also functions like a laptop when needed really liked that feature.

Check out the WSJ YouTube video. I’m as confused as you are about these new ones. I’ll check them out when they arrive at Costco.

The new Air looks really slick but the cons for me were: no Pro Motion Display, 2 Speakers instead of four (I went with my Pro 9.7 for entertainment consumption), the chip is faster in the Pro even though the numbers would have you think otherwise, it starts at 64 GBs and went up a $100 vs last year’s Air. I wanted Face ID.

I ended up ordering this year’s Pro 11.0 in the Education section. Got a free pair of Air Pods I’ll probably gift to my son at Christmas and with trading in my current Pro I’ll be getting 128GBs for a little less than the Air at 64GB.

Maybe look at if you have a trade in and if the AirPods would be something you want or could gift/sell and see if it makes sense for you to get the Pro. They have a comparison chart on Apple that might help you out as well.

The advantages of the iPad Pro over the iPad Air are:
  • Promotion display - smoother scrolling effect
  • Liquid Retina display - (very) slightly better contrast in colors
  • better multitask processor (but slower single task) - not noticeable for average user
  • starts at 128GB storage (versus 64GB storage in the Air)
  • better rear camera
  • 4 speakers (versus just 2 in the Air)
Arguable: Face ID in the Pro versus Touch ID (on the power button) in the Air. Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with Face ID. For me at least, Face ID doesn't work 100% unless I'm staring at the camera directly, which I'm not always doing with an iPad. And Face ID doesn't allow for more than one saved biometric (ie. can't have your SO or DD/DS face saved). For these reasons, I prefer to have Touch ID.

If you have the extra $200 available, the iPad Pro 11" is better IMO, if you need a new iPad now.

No one knows, but I believe Apple will refresh (probably not a design change, but more like upgraded specs) sometime early 2021.

For me, Face ID sometimes works TOO well. My phone unlocks with just a glance from just about any angle including flat on the table, with sunglasses on (except my RayBans) and in the dark. And yes, you can add an alternate appearance. I added mine to my kids phones without issue.
