ipad or ipad 2

I don't which to choose. Either would have 3g and wifi and either would have 64 gb. The ipad I can get for $529 while the ipad2 would be $829. Is the 2 worth $300 more? I don't need too many specs as I'm not that savvy.

It's not a huge difference.

Here's the basics.

Ipad2 has cameras front and back, it's faster overall (but unless you're doing games or video editing I doubt you'd notice much difference). Battery life is about the same.

Besides that, you can use an HDMI cable (with a $39 adapter) to show on a TV screen what you're doing on your Ipad2 (the cable can be used for the Ipad as well but only for video like netflix or youtube, not anything else)

Honestly, other than the cameras (front and back) and the faster processor they are pretty much the same. Oh, and the 2 is thinner and lighter. That said, I am writing this from my iPad2. I passed on the first generation to wait on this. It was worth the wait. I would go with the 2.

In regards to a previous poster, the memory configurations are the same on both generations, and the first iPad did not have a camera at all.

Just bought an iPad2 yesterday after a lot of careful research. I passed on the iPad1 because it didn't seem that different than a giant iphone. However, the cameras and video editing capabilities on the ipad2 sold me.

People are still lining up every morning to get the new ipad2--- so you'll have an easier time getting a 1st generation.

Thanks so much y'all for the comments! I'm going to give it some more thought. The video editing has me leaning towards the ipad 2 though. I do photo editing on my laptop and that is something that I thought I would miss on an ipad.

Just a tip.....
If you buy an iPad at Target (first or second generation) and you open a credit card the same day, you get 15% off your purchases that entire day. I was able to find my iPad 2 (white, 64gb, wifi) at Target and was able to save a fair amount on the iPad and AppleCare.

Just an FYI to let you know that iMovie doesn't come with it, but you can get it for $4.99 in the app store. I haven't played with it yet, but all the articles I've read say it is great.

Thanks y'all! I had no luck today every place was out but the Apple store clerk said they open tomorrow at 11 and will sell whatever came in today on a first come first served basis. My husband and I will get up and get to the store by 8 and hopefully we'll have luck.
cc1013, I didn't even know Target sold the iPad so that's where we'll go if I can't get on tomorrow.
If all else fails, I'm ordering one directly from Apple.

Got my ipad 2 delivered Thursday. Ordered at 1:01 pst the morning they went on sale. Took it out of the box today. Had up and running in no time.

What a slick piece of equipment.

In the long run, you,ll be glad you went with the new model.

That makes me feel a little better about having to wait for mine. I ordered mine at the Verizon store on 3/12 and mine was delivered yesterday. Loving it and enjoying grabbing iPad apps!

It says it will be delivered on April 28th. Did your orders ship as they stated or did they (fingers crossed) come earlier? I was hoping to have it before I left for my Disney trip on April 24th.

I looked at the iPad 2 in the store ( I'm posting from my iPad1 and I love it!!). I seriously think the white model *looks* like it has a smaller screen. It's completely an optical illusion but the black gives the appearance that the screen extends further.

Yeah-I'm pretty sure I'll go with black.

I don't have any kind of Ipad so this would be brand new to me. Right now we have 4 of us all using the same laptop so it would definitely make things easier.

I bought the white and you are right that it does "look" smaller. It isn't, of course--- and when they are turned on they look about the same. However, the black border runs into the black screen making it "look" bigger turned off.

I chose the white because I wanted something bright and "different" from the ipad 1. Also, I had dd8 with me and she picked out a pink cover for it---so the pink and white made it very "girly". While technically it is mine, it will be used by my family (both dd's and dh who is used to dealing with "girly" with a house full of females). Dd8 liked the pink/white combo!

Also, we had to stand in line and when it was our turn, I said I wanted a the 16 with wifi in either in white, but black would be ok. She smiled and said "Oh, white---we've still got that one." It was my sense that the black ones are more popular and thus harder to get one's hands on in the stores. Note- The stored opened it's doors an hour early for people wanting ipads and were gone before that hour was up. This was this past Friday.

I have both (just passed my iPad one to hubby when my iPad 2 arrived). I lean towards getting a 2 but if cameras are not important and you are going to use it primarily for an e-reader and web browser, I would save the $300 and get the first gen.

That said, I love my iPad2 and the smart covers are great!

I got the white, I liked the way it looked with the green smart cover. I also like to be a bit different, and since all the of the 1st generation are black, I like mine to stand out LOL. I put an SGP screen protector on it, and it covers all the white, so dirt should not be an issue.
