Ipad as computer?

Anyone using an iPad as their sole computer? We have an old laptop that could work for updating iTunes but our primary use for a computer is email and internet. More consumer than creator. I'm afraid to make the leap and find that it won't suit our needs. I've researched and found that you can order a keyboard and camera adaptor for the iPad which seems to make it perfect for us as our primary computer. I'd love to hear from anyone who's utilizing the iPad in this way?

I don't have one yet, but I've been looking at them. HP is supposed to be coming out with HP Slate by year end. Supposed to have Windows 7 & web browser. If iPad ends up being too limiting, purhaps something like Slate would work for you?

I don't know if I could have a "computer" that only gets email, web & apps. You never install any type of software or use any other type of software or add-ons?

I look at tablets like this, at least for now, as gateways to other computers. If you can use, exclusively, web-based applications, then the tablets should be fine. Personally, I like using some windows apps, and so I would use a tablet as a convenient way of remote-ing into a "real" computer that is somewhere else.

The only thing I don't like about the ipad as a computer is that it doesn't support flash, so I can't do things like watch weather radar loops, watch movies on comcast, chat on a different board.

Otherwise it's great. I'm assuming it can be hooked up to a printer somehow, I just haven't tried.

I love my ipad.

That said, for about the same price, especially if you want the 3G model, you can get a decent laptop. I just got a moderate priced one ($679) HP Pavilion that is AWESOME!

I would not at this point get one for school, ( and I am all about Apple) because I wanted to be able to download my photos and stuff and that cannot be done right, so until that does happen, I will pass, my new 15 macbook pro will just have to do!
