Is there an App out there for the iPad designed for DCL that shows the layouts of each deck, etc? Just simple maps to help find stuff and navigate the ship.

I use this for my Android: http://shipmateapp.com/

Right now they seem to have all major cruise lines EXCEPT Disney for iOS, but you may want to look closer at it... Good Luck!

I am not sure about Ipad, there is an andoid one call Ship Mate. Maybe they have one for Ipad too???

ShipMate is a great app, but it does not have DCL.

According to their facebook page they "are having a little trouble pushing it through Apple's approval process... branding issues - we'll keep trying...."

sigh.

ETA: My post is specifically in regard to the ipad or iphone. ShipMate for DCL on the ipad or iphone does not exist.

Bummer, sorry. I have the Magic on my android phone, I was hoping you could get it for the ipad.

It appears all the disney sites rely on flash player, so their systems don't work on ipad. About a week ago I sent a note through Disney's "contact us" system, saying I would like to be able to use my ipad to view key things like deck plans. The response was a bit disheartening: a suggestion that I instead contact Apple and ask them to change their iphone and ipad systems to work with the old technology Disney relies on! I don't see an ipad App comingout of that tech team, but I guess there is always hope!

I have the ICruise app and it has all of Disney ships room descriptions and floor plans! It works on my I phone no problem!

Yikes. Someone should tell Disney to get with the program and port their site to HTML5. Flash is going away. Of course that would be my opinion, as a Mac user :)

Ok, geek going back into his box now...

Eric

iCruise is just what I was looking for! Thanks for all the help and quick responses!

no the mac fan boys need to realize that not everyone has a mac or wants to buy one.

Correct, but given the sheer # of iPhones and iPads out there you would think Disney would be all over using something more universal than flash. It's a battery and memory hog so even though it annoys me that I can't choose to run it on my phone I understand why apple did it. They're all about user experience and I can hear the complaints about battery life now if they enabled it...

Actually it's mainly because Mr. Jobs doesn't like flash, also he doesn't think people need or use a CD rom drive anymore because they download everything.

Just becase Mr Jobs has a hate for flash (and Java) doesn't mean that flash is not still a memory and battery hog. There are numerous websites talking and demonstrating the effect flash has on battery life. Even Adobe has admitted it. I'm not Mac fanboy, but I admit I like the ipad better than I thought I would and as both a consumer and a programmer, I like the idea of html5 replacing flash for more reasons than my battery life. BTW, for the microsoft fanboys, Silverlight is likely on its way out in favor of html5 too.

Even when I worked in IT at Disney years ago, there were some politically strong factions holding onto old tech and refusing to move forward. I know it's getting better in some departments, but their answer doesn't surprise me a bit. On a recent weekend riding and camping in the smokies, I was able to use my ipad to do our cruise palo bookings and such at midnight on the night/day it was available to us. :cool1: It actually worked better than trying to talk DW through it over the phone on her laptop (she was probably slowed down by the flash animations :lmao:)
