So just by chance DH stopped by the closest Apple store to our home yesterday morning and was able to FINALLY get an iPad 2!! Since we've been having such a difficult time getting one I caved and ordered DH's last week, but was going to wait and see how I liked his before getting one. DH couldn't resist getting one for me yesterday since they had them in stock and now I'm setting it up. I have the 64gb White WiFi and after exploring it and looking at apps and movies to put on it am wondering if I really need it. I currently have an iPhone 4 which seems like it does everything the iPad 2 does (actually more because it's a phone), just on a smaller scale. Am I missing something? Is the iPad 2 just a larger version of the iPhone (without the phone)?

I got my iPod 2 Monday, and I am underwhelmed. I see myself using it as a "couch side" and travel device, but if I had one to try for a day before ordering one, I do not think that I would have gotten one.

In some senses, yes, it is a larger version of the iPhone. They have the same operating system and similar features. However, the "larger" part can come in very handy. Reading an ebook on an iPhone is much less pleasant than reading it on an iPad. Similarly, web pages that involve a lot of scrolling on an iPhone will generally require much less on an iPad. Watching movies on an iPhone is possible, but, again, they really benefit from a larger screen.

Those are my use cases for an iPad. I can do those things on my iPhone, but the quality of the experience would be better on an iPad.

You can watch TV on 13 inch screen or you can watch TV on 55in screen.

You are achieving the same goal, but the experience is very different.

I wanted it just as a big kid toy. My husband golfs I like tech toys, fair trade in my head.

What happens if you golf & like tech toys?

After having my iPad for 11.5 months, I can't imagine not having it. I surf the web mor othis device than my laptop. I am responding to this thread on my iPad, I have our Disney trip plans tracked in numbers on this iPad, I keep my notes on note taker HD, play angry birds, keep track of fitness, watch Netflix, check email, etc....

I continue to attempt to convince myself that it is not time to upgrade to the ipad2 :)

I sold my macbook once I got the iPad. I don't have a use for a laptop for work, and my wife prefers the desktop. The iPad is a great device for me and my uses at home. In the end, however, it really depends on the user.

On a side note, I have an iPhone 4. I hate using the small screen for browsing the internet. On the iPad, the internet is awesome.
