Inviting Guests Question

Our good friends just purchased DVC and will be using it the first time this spring (during our spring break). They will be staying at the Y&BC. Our other friends are also going that week and are staying offsite. Our DVC friends want to invite the other friends to spend the day with them at the resort using the pool. Is this allowed? Thank you very much.

Sorry, no - it's not allowed. I don't know about the other resorts, but Stormalong Bay at the Yacht & Beach Club is reserved for current guests only. Your friends wouldn't be allowed to use it if they were staying at another DVC resort, either.

There are better persons to answer this questions but I believe that only people staying at the Beach club can use stormalong bay. From what I hear they check room keys when you enter.

No it won't be allowed. You will need to show room keys for everyone in your party and receive wristbands to be admitted. Since Spring Break is a very busy time, CM's will be paying extra attenttion to only allow Y&B guests to the pool area.

While, in general, they are a little more strict at SAB, just ask at the front desk about bringing some guests for a few hours and see what the response may be.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are welcome to have their friends join them for a few hours. :)

Enjoy!

On the surface your request for guests seems very reasonable. Have a question for you: What if everyone brought guests in for the day to use resort pools? :confused3 Also how will your guests get through security into the resort? They must be checking in (on the list) or a registered guest to get in. Sometimes we need to think about more than our own wants and needs. It really is rude to hop guests into the pool. Let them pay the hotel rate to stay. If you really want to get together, stay at the same resort. I'm sure your intentions here are good but it just isn't right. Maybe your friends end up taking seats that my PAYING family needs. I just met a guy at the Marriott Surf Club pool in Aruba who actually told me he was staying next door at the Holiday Inn. His friends were staying at the Surf Club he stated. I had $845 per night worth of reasons why this frosted me. I just wrote this guy off as another inconsiderate jerk. I mentioned this to a guy in the lazy river floating near me. He told his wife who asked me who they were. I pointed the guy out and his wife got off her float and had them thrown out. I'm not saying you are inconsiderate at all, you are doing the right thing by asking here first. Whether the resort, someone here, whatever, tells you it is fine, it isn't. I'm sure you'll do the right thing. Have a great trip.

Depending on your unit size and group makeup, you may be able to just add them to your reservation even if they are not staying with you. If that's workable, they would be totally legal for SAB, etc.

All the friends could nicely meet up at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach with no one on the verge of being thrown out because they don't belong there.

I did not say it was me--I was the one that told her that I did not think it was allowed.

This reminds me of our trip to WDW last May. DH and I were sponsors of a show choir that was performing at WDW, and competing at Universal. We knew we would be busy MANY days with the kids, and invited my parents along to babysit our dd. We put them up at a studio at the BCV, and dh and I (and our dd part of the time) were actually staying at a Hilton by Universal.
However, my parents were uncomfortable taking our dd swimming at BCV, so we decided to sign my dh into the studio, along with my dd and parents so he could take her swimming if she wanted to go (which, of course...she did).

When we arrived at BCV, I went to check everyone into the room (because my family makes me handle all the WDW "stuff"). The CM at the counter was confused....I was checking 4 people into a studio, but none of them were me...but, my dh and dd were two of the people going in the room?? :confused3 She didn't get it, and THREE times during the check-in process, she made it clear that, although my family were guests of the hotel, I was not....that means no sleeping in the room, or swimming at SAB. I laughed, and said, "Really, I get it...I promise I will not be sleeping in the room, or swimming in the pool...I promise!" I went on to explain that I am actually allergic to chlorine, and sometimes cannot even sit by the pool (if they have just added chlorine)....I have NEVER actually gotten into the water at SAB, and I'm not sure if I ever will....only if I absolutely have to.

I thought it was so funny, though....she just KNEW we were "scamming" the system. I think they must just see a lot of this at BC.

I don't deserve to flamed for this post. I was very diplomatic here. I appreciate you atking the time to ask for them.

I agree that no one deserves to get flamed for an honest question. I think the problem is that there are very often questions that folks ask that appeart to be intended to foster abuse of Disney's leniency with regard to enforcing their terms and conditions, and such abuse tends to adversely affect all guests, especially those that act with integrity, so it becomes a sore point for many. It is a shame that someone got the end of the tailpipe this time. :(

I agree with both Daitcher and bicker.

I've been doing that a lot lately.

Is that one of the signs of the End Times?

:rotfl2: Throwing the love right back at you DrT. Didn't we disagree a lot in the past? :confused3 I found all your posts to be right on the money for quite some time now. Now bicker agreeing with me, not that was a shocker. :)

I apologize if you thought I was flaming you--that was not my intention. I just meant to point out that it was not me that was thinking about bringing guests to Y&BC and I was the one that said I did not think it was allowed. I totally agree with the rule.

Yes Dr. T. It is the endtimes!

I always thought that Daithcer and Bicker were the same person, just 2 different Usernames! If that is not the case, perhaps twins?

(And I agree with all three of you more often than not!)

I stayed at BCV (as a renter) first week of May '05. Granted, this was after the spring break frenzy, but we were NEVER asked to show any kind of ID for the pool areas.

When we went on our recent Magic Cruise we took a taxi over to The Atlantis. My DH and I had the same conversation there. They would allow you for our family of 3 for almost $100 to view the fish, but you would not be allowed to even see the pool areas at all. That was fine with us, we kept our $100 also. I understand that if I was staying there, I would not want cruise people daily just dropping in and using my resort.

However.....that resort was like a prison. We watched as paid guests were constantly pulling out their resort id's to walk from one place to another. I thought that would get pretty old if I was staying there and I would almost feel "captive".

Interesting too that when we talked with the time share desk at Atlantis, he could not even show us around the resort. I guess too many people have used that as a scam, but c'mon, just to SEE the pools? I'm not buying into any timeshare if I'm not allowed to view my purchase first. We thought that was really quite odd. They said we would still have to purchase the day pass, but still that didn't get you near the pools, so I found it all quite confusing.
