Invite outcome?

We live in NY and had a good amount of people. Remember though if you invite 100, you will NOT have a 100. It is rare 100% of people will come. We also did pre-invites to see who could make it. I think we invited around 100-120 and had around 70. Some of the 70 were from Florida though (about 10).

pixie....that's the other issue i'm having...we can't afford to spend $50-$60k & get nothing in return..we could easily invite 185 people..so even if 90 came..it could be pricey b/c I feel like you can't expect gifts for destination wedding..so it's realllllyyyy stressing me out & making me have a hard time deciding what to do....personal question but did you receive gifts? Did you have a bridal shower & engagement party?
You're from NY so you know how much weddings here can cost! What part of NY are you from?

pixie..one more thing..how far in advance did you do pre-invites? You already had the date set I assume?

We invited about 65 (I don't know the exact number because we kept inviting people after the initial 30 or so invites went out) and 30 came. The funny thing is after the invites went out we had about 50 verbal yes's, but when it came down to actually sending the response card in a lot of those yes's were no's. About 55 of the 65 invited were family. We got married December 10th. I let people know verbally about a year in advance, sent a pre-wedding newsletter in July, sent actual invitations in September with November 1st RSVP deadline, and a final newsletter mid November. We, and most of our guests, live in Virginia. We did have some come from NC and TX.

A big chunk of them (14) are taking a family trip to WDW next summer so they didn't come. We're having an "at-home" reception in a few months (that I have no desire to plan) and I anticipate about 75-100 people coming to that.

I had two bridal showers and decided against an engagement party (but my MIL wanted to throw one). We didn't get any gifts at the actual wedding, but we did get 2-3 cards with some cash.
