I was noting recently , when pulling out some old disney tix to use, that I had paid 44.00 early 2000 for these and am getting an 89.00 value today from them. This means a better than 6 percent return annually on my investment. Comparing that to my savings accts, etc. I am doing very well. Perhaps buying Disney tickets now would be a great hedge against inflation for the future and make taking eventual grandkids to the parks affordable.

While I find myself giggling at the thought of theme park tickets as a form of investment, I am also seriously contemplating the same thought. We are planning a trip at the end of Feb. It will be our son's first trip. I know we will go back every 5 years, or so. I might check out the no expiration option and up our days.

The last 3 years we have done the YES tickets. $213 for 8 full park hoppers and 8 vouchers to DQ and waterparks. If you divide that by 8, it is still only $26 per day. If you divide it by 16, it is only $13 per day.

I have considered buying non-expiring, but they are actually NOT $89 per day if you purchased per day. You can't even buy a non-expiring 1 day. A two day non-expiring park hopper is $131 per day plus tax.

A 10 day hopper with non-expiring is $65 per day and with water parks and more it is $67 per day.

A regular 1 day ticket is a non-expiring 1 day ticket since they don't expire until you start using them.

You don't actually need to buy non-expiring tickets unless you want to use part of your pass on one trip and then the rest on another. Otherwise, you could just buy a few 7-day passes (or whatever the normal amount for your trip is) and use a new pass for each trip.

Also, the YES ticket prices have increased for 2013 so you may want to look and see what the savings are.

I've thought about this. You really need to think carefully about this before doing it. If you stay offsite and don't want to try things like YES classes then it can work out well for you. If you like to stay at a WDW resort then you really need to step back and think it over. More and more resort promotions are requiring the purchase of tickets in order to get the resort discount. Currently, room only discounts don't have this requirement but there's no way to know if that's how it'll work in the future. In addition, for many people the package promotions are far better deals for their group and those do require a ticket purchase. If you've already bought your tickets then your spending more money that you wouldn't otherwise spend (double purchasing tickets). Yes those tickets don't expire but it's still money you've put out unecessarily.

I have 18 unused Disney tickets in my safe right now, so this is something we believe in. I bought them with "extra" money - so the purchase did not affect our monthly budget. We have been AP holders for the past 3 years, so we are saving them until we no longer have AP's. They are a combination of regular park hoppers and non-expiring hoppers with the water parks option.

YES are still cheaper. The kids tickets are MUCH cheaper.

A one day non-expiring ticket is insanely priced. I won't be stockpiling $100 tickets (with tax) for all of us.

If Disney ever gets to where I am indeed spending $100 per day for their deal pricing, I will forgo Disney unless my salary goes up exponentially as well.

Besides, no way I could hang on to a ticket for 10 years.....we go yearly and go multiple days.

We did this. We bought several tickets for our then unborn children in the 90s. We still have some left and have used some over the years when ever we don't get APs, package tickets with free dining, or YES tickets. It was a great investment.

We bought 7 day PHs from UCT just before the price increase in June, 2010. Although we planned to use them to upgrade to the Premier AP that year, we were not able to do so as we already had DL APs. So far, the upgrade value has incresed about 9% per year. Which is good because with the PAP discount on DVC APs for next year, we may not use them until 2015! -- Suzanne

Now that is the best investment advice I have heard in awhile!

I wish the YES classes were offered year round. We cannot travel during those times to take advantage of this.

I don't think the OP was talking about no expires anyway, but they do make sense for us. We buy 10 day tix and only use 3 -4 days per trip.

If we get free dining (and we have), we consider the tickets we buy as both our food cost and an investment in future trips!

We did this before the Magic Your Way tickets. We had a trip that only required 3 days of tickets, but we bought the 10 non-expiring park hoppers. It worked out to be about $30 a day. We are still using them this year. And may end up with a day left over for next time. DH thought I was crazy at the time, but has since seen the benefits of my logic. :thumbsup2
