Can anyone tell me what Disney does with their inventory of buyed back points? Do they have to build up a certain number of points before they have a sales campaign to sell them. For instance they must have an inventory of OKW points I would imagine from their ROFR policy, while they are sitting on these points aren't they losing money? Is this just a tactic to support the resale market? I would imagine once they determine they are done adding exising DVC resorts they will not care what resales go for because they will no longer have any competition and this will tank the resale market. Does anyone agree with my opinion???

I don't think that Disney is sitting on an inventory of points -- there are waiting lists for people to buy points for the sold out resorts -- OKW,BWV;s,VWL, & BCV's. It is my understanding that Disney is buying back the points with their ROFR from people selling their contracts and then re-selling them at the current price per point to the people on the waiting lists.

Ahhh.....that makes so much sense, I wasn't aware that there was multiple waiting lists for those sold out DVC resorts. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention.

The other factor to consider is that realistically the sellers probably do NOT want Disney to exercise ROFR on their contracts because that means they could have gotten more for it. ROFR has set a floor (albeit a somewhat moving floor) on the resale costs. With so many people buying and selling through knowledgable brokers, the buyers in particular can get good advice on the type of offer to make in order to pass through ROFR.

Certainly there are times where a contract is just too low for DVC to pass on it, and there may be other times where the snatch up a contract to meet the needs of someone on the waiting list.

But by and large, ROFR has created a marketplace in which sellers know how to value their points and buyers know they need to offer a certain amount in order to actually get the contract.

We were on the BWV list a couple of years ago before they released the extra points. We were on the list for about a year before we got the call that they had an extra 100 points. We could take any or all of it, and had a week to talk it over. We ended up taking all 100 points, and are sure glad we did.

For the WDW resorts, I suspect that Disney only exercises ROFR at a sufficient rate to meet the demand from add-on or occasional new purchasers.

My waitlist for additional BWV points just came thru today. Yay!:bounce:
