Inventions using simple machines

DS has an assignment to design and build an invention using 2 simple machines. He came up with an idea to improve his jumping ability using a board and springs....but the springs are just one machine. We've been racking our brains trying to come up with an improvement to what he's already thought of. Any ideas?

Has anyone else ever had an assignment like this?

Yes my kids had simple machines in I believe 3rd grade. They built something in class with materials parents sent in. If you do a google search I saw some cute websites. One had Lego simple machines. My idea would be to build something that could put candy into a dish or a topping on your ice cream. Have fun building!
