So R says "Why don't we go to Orlando in October to see Renee and then do Halloween at the parks?" After making sure he isn't suffering from some horrible tropical fever, I start the planning. [I'm a type-A when it comes to planning trips; R is just content to go along for the ride. It all evens out, though -- he gets anal about other things -- day-to-day living things -- that I could care less about. "Artsy" v. "practical", remember?]
Wednesday, October 28, 2009: Fly into MCO, rent a car, and head out to Windermere to see Renee. I hate getting up for early flights, so we leave Memphis at 1:00-something PM and get to Orlando at 4:00-something PM. Perfect!
Thursday, October 29, 2009: Spend all day with Renee. See the many sights of Windermere and environs.
Friday, October 30, 2009: Get up early (funny how I hate getting up for early flights, but when it comes to getting to Disney, I don't mind it all. Go figger), head over to one of the parks. I haven't decided which one yet....
BUT I had a great thing come our way, just by happenstance. In the course of regular conversation with a business colleague of mine over the phone, I mentioned that I'd be out of the office for a bit in October. She asked where we were going, and I said "Orlando. Disney. Halloween." Well. She then tells me that she's from Orlando, her mom is a senior business person for Disney, and that I should let her know when we were going...because her mom will come and meet us at T&T and sign us in to the park with ParkHopper privileges. GRATIS.
At first I demurred, but after checking the prices, I reversed my stance. I hadn't checked tix prices for Disney in a long time, and was kind of surprised at the cost. There's a catch, though -- we can't be signed in for a 3 day period -- it has to happen EACH DAY. Which means mom would have to come over and meet us every morning. To me, that would be a little much, a big imposition on her, and I wasn't willing to do that, especially on the weekends. I mean who wants to leave their house on the weekend, brave traffic out to Disney property, just to sign in to the parks 2 people you don't really know? Didn't bother me so much for the weekdays (her office is right there on-property), but weekends? Uh, no.
So we're going to utilize this VERY KIND OFFER on Friday and Monday, and be responsible for ourselves on Saturday (Halloween!) and Sunday.
But I digress. Friday we go to a Disney park, and then afterwards check into our hotel.
Ah, our hotel...which is a whole other saga.
For the next post.
