Hi,

I have been looking around in II for a trade out basically anywhere in US from end of this month til early 2025. NOTHING comes up as available outside of Vegas. Am I doing something wrong? I'm looking at vacation exchange. I'd like to get into any of the Florida Keys or California, or near any national park and it keeps coming back with my dates are not available, but when I click on the button to look at any other available dates, I get the same message, that there are no dates available.

Could that be? I looked at Charleston, Northern CA, and Florida upper and lower keys and I'm getting nothing.
Any advice is appreciated.

TIA
Dee

The Keys are relatively rare. They are there, though--I just saw a bunch of Key West Hyatts for July '23 the other day, but they are gone now.

Lake Tahoe (both CA and NV sides) is an easy exchange more or less year round. So is the San Diego area (specifically the Welk resorts in Escondido). The Northern Natl. Forest zone is usually only off-season stuff, but every once in a while I see something. San Francisco is almost exclusively studios, so if you are looking for a larger unit, that will be harder.

CA Southern Coast is another one that's pretty easy off-season but hard during peak summer. There were a ton of Jan/Feb and very early Mar units at Marriott's Newport Coast for a couple of months late last year. Unfortunately, late March never came in...I was looking! So we're using our Wyndham points at Oceanside instead for my son's spring break week at UCLA.

However, the best way to get something in Interval is to place an ongoing search. The stuff you see when you search "by hand" is only the leftovers that are there after the ongoing searches have been matched.

Thank you. This is really good to know. What happens if an ongoing search doesn't come through?

How do I get to interval II? All I see is a tab for “vacation exchange” and “hotel exchange.” Are these interval II?

Trying to understand the ongoing search a bit better. Let's say I want to trade and stay at the Hyatt Residence Maui in November of 2023. Can I set up a search thru DVC for a single property for a specific date range? If so, do I need to deposit the points FIRST...or can I deposit the points once the match has been made?

II usually requires an ongoing search to have a combination of three different resorts/weeks. So, if you are looking for at least three different possible weeks in November at one resort, that would qualify. If you are looking for one very specific week, you'd want to have at least three different resorts in your search. You do not need to deposit points in advance, as Interval offers something they call "Request First". If you have a match, the points will automatically be taken from your account--so you need to make sure that you have enough points there if you are still interested.

You can read more about how it all works in gory detail here:

One thing to remember: to be able to exchange into some resort, you need someone else who is willing to exchange out of that same resort. Like DVC, Hyatt members do not deposit specific weeks themselves, but instead they use points for exchange and Hyatt decides what/where/when to deposit. Ka'anpali is very rarely deposited (I don't remember seeing it on the TUG Sightings board, and a quick search suggests it hasn't been seen for at least a year.) So, if you are serious about Maui, you might want to include a few other resorts as well.

II (2 capital i’s) is the abbreviation for Interval International. So if you see those tabs, you’re in II. Click on the Hotel Exchange tab to see the replacement for the Concierge Collection.

Thank you. I feel like I am missing something. This is what my pages looks like. I never see a II. I’m wondering if I need to call member services because we should have it. 3D84BC82-C6B6-43FD-8F3B-A8802C9699F9.jpegD090B859-DEDC-4520-B05D-8C41B879F380.jpeg10F500F2-963E-421F-B5D0-80BDBAA38FA3.jpegCEB0F2BF-6922-44D7-95B5-687AAC9D6B8A.jpeg

That last screenshot is the Interval International web site. You're in the right place!
Thanks! I didn’t think it was correct because I can’t find any of the hotels that were in the concierge collection that we were interested in. 😕. One was that hotel in San Diego that the Grand Floridian was modeled on and the other one was a ski type place in Vermont. Also the hotels in nyc, Chicago, and London seemed like better in the last concierge collection. But not sure.

So if you are not II, what do you have access to? Just fewer hotels?

As a DVC owner, you’re an II member with access to those hotels by using your DVC points, as limited as they are. I don’t think there are other hotels we can use our DVC points for now, unfortunately.

That’s interesting. So basically it sounds like there is no concierge collection. Everyone has access to the same exchange/no blue card difference?

I guess so - but I can't confirm since I haven't investigated the DVC II website very thoroughly. All I remember is an email or other announcement from DVC saying that the II partnership benefits including using points for hotels would replace the Concierge Collection.

I got that too, but it also replaced RCI, right? They did not exactly say— at least if I am remembering correctly? So I guess they merged? I haven’t been able to figure it out. I am now thinking they were purposely vague because essentially they took away a blue card benefit.

Correct, and correct. And, as far as I can remember, the Concierge Collection was also available to any owner and not limited to those with access to Membership Extras. The things that were exclusive to Membership Extras were: the Disney Collection, Adventures by Disney, and Disney Cruise Line.

The Concierge Collection ended at the end of last year.

However, if I look at the Membership Extras disclosure, it does describe something that is limited to those with Membership Extras:

Disney-branded exchange options and all options offered through Hotel Exchange are not available for ownership interests not purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. after March 21, 2011
So maybe there is something other than Interval? Alternatively, it might be the case that non-ME accounts don't have access to Interval's hotel exchanges. Either way, it probably will not be compelling.

I did not realize that the concierge collection was available to everyone— I’m not arguing for exclusivity, I’m just disappointed it is no longer there period. But thanks for the info. It looks like the marriot hotels are the best ones on interval.

The CC required points that are direct or purchased resale prior to 2011. My understanding…which could be wrong because I have not done in-depth reading…is that the Hotel exchange program still requires eligible points

But it’s intertwined with II..which all points are eligible for in term of exchanging.

ETA: I just read again and it does list it differently as an option..but don’t see anywhere anymore where either the hotel exchange or vacation exchange require certain points…so maybe direct points are no longer needed for the options that replace the CC.
