Does anyone have an Interval International exchange hotel recommendation or the name of a hotel to stay away from? It can be anywhere in the world, I would just like some opinions on non-Disney hotels. Thanks!

The Marriott Fords Colony at Williamsburg is the usual high Marriott quality. They often have summer exchanges available and Colonial Williamsburg is wonderful. (Walt visited Williamsburg while he was planning Disneyland.) On the Big Island of Hawaii the Kona Coast is often available and is pleasant. The hotel is not directly on a beach, but people often go to the Big Island for exploring rather than sunning themselves so this might not be a problem.

We stayed last summer at The Reef Resort in Grand Cayman. It was so nice and relaxing. The resort is beach front with plenty of lounge chairs and a great beach side bar. The staff is top notch and the resort is very clean. Check this one out:thumbsup2

you do want to stay close to home - or go anywhere?

Most of the hotels/resorts available via DVC trades thru II are pretty nice. The biggest difference is location and activities.

I would recommend going to trip advisor and research any hotel that might interest you.

Has anyone every stayed at the Sheraton Plantation in Myrtle Beach I was looking into trying to trade there for the summer of 2009. I am sure my chances are not that good I already have other trades in no luck. Thanks Tracy

Sheraton Plantation is very doable in the summer. I just called yesterday and was able to reserve a room in third week in June for this year, for a large one bedroom unit.

The resort is very nice, but its not on the beach. It has a nice pool and lazy river and is convienent to everything. Its the second highest rated timeshare in Myrtle Beach, after the Marriott Ocean Watch.

Just one more question the week you got in June was it a Dvc trade or another timeshare trade? Thanks

We used a different timeshare, sheraton. The way Starwood controls thier trade inventory, you probably would not recieve the trade until a few months out. The waiting game can be nerve racking, especially if you are a planner. That is why it is good to have a back-up plan.

We just returned from a stay at the Marriott Grand Chateau in Las Vegas. It was wonderful! Beautiful hotel about 1 year old. It's located about one block off the Strip (near the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino -formerly the Alladin). We've stayed on the Strip many times at various casino hotels and weren't sure that we would like staying in a non-casino hotel. It was actually very refreshing to get back at night and not have to walk through a smoke-filled casino to get to your room. And we saved a lot of $$$ because when my husband couldn't sleep at night, he couldn't go downstairs to the casino and spend all of our hard-earned $$ at the penny slots! :lmao: I love the Marriott timeshares almost as much as DVC, not quite but almost. :thumbsup2

Most Marriott's, Westin's (including Atlantis), Four Seasons and Hyatt's are OK. The Royal's in MX and Paradise Village in PV are very nice. For the Carribbean add the Reef and Grand Caymanian as well as Playa Linda/Costa Linda. There are a number of other nice resorts both on the DVC II list and not. The list of those to stay away from is much longer IMO though many of the worst II resorts are not on the DVC exchange list.

We also own at the Royal Palm Beach Club in St. Maarten. We like it very much, especially after the renovation. I don't know if it is DVC level, but it is very nice and located centrally to all of the Simpson Bay restaurants, many of which are in walking distance. Pool area is small, but very well designed.

I would like to go anywhere and want all opinions. :) I'm very interested in the Caribbean, Mexico, Africa and Europe.

Thanks for the responses! Keep 'em coming!

We've stayed at the Polo Towers in Las Vegas. Its on the strip between MGM & Aladdin. Really great accomodations. We like it so much that we are staying there again next month.

We actually own another timeshare based in Napa which is affiliated with II. We can do our own bookings in the II website as we have a membership with them as a result of our ownership in Napa. The great convience i like with my own memebership is I can trade a 1 bedroom in Napa for a 2 bedroom (if avail). I don't have to do a 1 bd for 1 bd even exchange.

We stayed at the Rennaisance Ocean Suites - there is also the Rennaisance Marina Hotel & Casino - Mall located inside the Marina Hotel - which are both Marriott owned in Aruba from Feb 8 - 15 this year, it was wonderful! Private island that only hotel guests can go to via a private "shuttle" boat! They're located in the heart of Oranjestad (capital of Aruba)! (Disney trade)

We've also traded for Cancun this coming October - staying at the Royal Islander....hear it's a great hotel...but I'll let you know when we return! (Marriott trade)
