After much discussion, my dad has decided he'd like to go to WDW for his 60th birthday. We'd need to trade our week through II for at least a 3 bedroom place to make it work for the 3 families that will be going. Seems easy enough, but the only week that will work for all of us is Thanksgiving week, and we're having a heck of a time finding anything open during that week. Any tricks to finding some openings that are II exchangable, besides just checking their website daily??
We're finding some 2 bedrooms for that week, but that isn't feasable w/the amount of people in our family.

thanks for all your help

I would love to know this we have II and have NEVER been able to trade into disney over 6 years.

Although II LOVES to tout that Disney Vacation Club is in II they actually get virtually no inventory and what they do get is mostly small (studio / 1 bedroom) in the off seasons. There is virtually no chance of getting a 3 bedroom (a rare size in DVC in any case) in prime season with II.

If that is what you really want you are better off to rent from a DVC owner directly rather than dealing with II.

I don't think the OP is looking only at the DVC II resorts---I think they are looking at II generally.

Are you depositing a 3BR, or something smaller? If smaller, that's going to make things more difficult, as II limits any ongoing search to a unit no larger than the one you are depositing.

If you're in that boat, you'll have to check daily, and you want to be looking early AM eastern, as the early bird gets the exchange. Star Island is once place that seems to have decent 3BR availability. The Cypress Pointes also have 3BRs, but they are lock-offs, and often deposited separately when possible. Some of the Celebrity and Westgate resorts have 3BRs, but I'd consider those second choices.

If you are depositing a 3BR, then start an ongoing search for a 3BR unit or larger and hope.

For holiday weeks and large travel parties, you're probably either going to need multiple units, or a private rental of a larger home.

I agree with Brian. If you have a 3BR deposit, then you need to place your ongoing search request ASAP and just wait a while to see. Trying to snag a holiday week 3BR by looking online once in a while is not likely to work - you need the ongoing search.

If you only have a 2BR deposit, then you need to request specifically only those resorts which have NO smaller units. Offhand, I can only think of a couple:

MIP - Marriott Imperial Palm Villas (all 3BRs, no lock-offs)

VRP - Villas at Regal Palms (all 3BRs and 4BRs, no lock-offs)

Both of these are considered good places with II, so you'll need a pretty good trade power deposit to get a holiday week at one of them. We have not stayed at either so I can't comment on what they are like inside.

Also, if you have access to RCI trading, there are more resorts with only 3BRs: one of the Grand Beach resorts and Summer Bay Houses, at least. But even with just II, there are plenty of resorts which have 3BR lock-offs and if you have a 3BR deposit with pretty good trade power, an ongoing search ought to be able to get you one, IMO. Depends on what you're trading. HTH.

Availability will depend, to some degree, on the unit that you're trading and its trade power within the Interval system.

Using a moderate trader (2 Bedroom unit) I can see three three-bedroom units available in Orlando this morning for Thanksgiving week 2008 - a Westgate Town Center (WTG) 3BR from Friday 11/21 to Friday 11/28, a Cypress Pointe Resort (CYN) 3BR from Friday 11/21 to Friday 11/28, and a Fairfield Star Island (VBR) 3BR from Saturday 11/22 to Saturday 11/29.

The suggestion to submit an exchange request if you have a 3BR to exchange is a good one, but just be aware that you may not get a 3BR unit if you're exchanging a 2BR.

The other suggestion that I'd add is to call Interval and ask the CSR what they can see with your timeshare week. Sometimes they can see things that aren't online.

orlando has several 3 bedrooms - all 3-bedrooms are not equal - while most will do 12 people - some will only do 10 people.

what are you seeing?

Thanksgiving week goes pretty fast.

how early can you get up?

look on the II system between 3 am and 5 am each morning. Yea - each morning - because what you are looking for will be gone by the next morning.

RCI has more of them.

in your situation would go with a 2-bedroom and just rent the studio.

thanksgiving week goes fast. You are about 4 months late for Thanksgiving week.

Thank you! Of the above can you ccomment on what you prefer? 2 years ago you helped us pick our last exchange through II for Orlando! :rotfl:

My father can also exchange through RCI.

I did see the Fairfield one is up this morning (thanks to the PP), but most of my family wants to "hold out" for a Marriott, or a nicer resort. I'm concerned if we wait too long all the 3BR will be taken.

thanks! your post made me go check out and I saw the Fairfield one.......I don't know anything about that place through and couldn't find a floorplan anywhere. Will keep searching, thanks

you can't wait too long at all.

if your father can get one of the Hilton's in the area - they are even nicer than the Marriott.

most of the Marriott only have 2-bedrooms - the only one that has 3 is the Imperial Palms and Grande Vista.

might even go for Cypress Pointe for both you and your father - both of you get a 3-bedroom there - if available.
