This may only make sense to those that are vell versed in other timeshares and timeshare exchanging directly with II. It appears to me that II has downgraded the rating of the DVC resort on HH slightly. The reason I say this is that I have been searching for HH for Jan through May of next year to see what comes up. If I search with my Marriott Grande Ocean 4th of July week, I get only Marriott options and no Disney units. If I search with my MX resort and use a deposit that's non red for a resort that's 5* but slightly below the Marriott, I get the Marriott choices but a few other lessor resorts and also a number of DVC units, non of which came up using Grande Ocean. If I drop the MX resort deposit back to a studio (non red time), I get the same results. If I search with an Aruba week (much lessor resort and lessor red week), I get none of the top Marriott's or DVC but many much lower resorts including the lower Marriott's.

To me this says they've drawn a line between the desireability and rating of DVC vs Grande Ocean. Based on the other results, it's not a big difference but detectable none the less. Interesting to me, I thought a few of you might be interested as well.

That's interestng Dean!!

I bought DVC (BWV) because we wanted to go to Disney (obviously) and stay on Disney property. The other reason was it appeared that DVC traded well (or would be very popular) to other timeshares (hopeing for Hawaii someday). I didn't realize that other timeshares would look at the different DVC resorts differently on an exchange basis. I wonder if they do the same thing for DVC resorts at WDW?

This year there have been more DVC units online at II than ever before. Wtih the new exchange system it's been all of the WDW resorts as well including BCV. With that said, it's obvious there are subtle differences in the trade power of all the resorts. Not only that, it changes from tiime to time, presumably due to the number of deposis at a specific resort and/or the number available at one time. This is the first time I've seen a DVC resort come in too low to match with my top trader though.

I think in the old system, it didn't matter, the trade value was the same. The question is wheher this has any affect on trade power up front before the deposit. My discussions with DVC in the past and my experience would say almost certainly not in the old system, still unlikely in the new system unless one does a deposit first.

Dean,

Does II have a regional block for resorts at Hilton Head like Orlando and Gatlinburg?

Not to my knowledge. I've always pulled Disney with Grande Ocean in the past as well as other non Marriott resorts that are of higher quality. It seems pretty obvious to me with the many hours of searching I'd done over the past couple of years using various options that II has drawn a big enough line between Grande Ocean and DVC to explain what I see. Part of it may be that GO is an ocean front resort and due to the internal trade issues with Marriott it gets many more requests than DVC. Part of the trade power is based on the number of requests.

I often search with all type of units, time designations and unit sizes as well as using four different resorts, 2 of which are floating time and one is also a floating unit size (points). That gives me the oportunity to vary the unit I search with from a studio to a 3 BR, from a non red time to bright red time (and in between) as by resort quality from the lowest 5* to the highest with one in between as well. The variation in results often times amazes me.

With doing this time after time, I now have a feel for what I need to use to get a certain exchange. That way I can always be in the mode where I'm trading up rather than down and I can save my top options for rentals or usage.

Was curious & did your search with a Westgate 1 bedroom and came up with your MX results for Jan & Feb but almost nothing for March.

The 1 BR unit is still available for 6-13 March as well as a 1 and 2 BR for late Feb. My guess is that Westgate is coming in from the other end and that the added power of March is beyone it's limits. It's funny though that I was able to pull everything with a non red June MX studio but not with my moderate red Aruba summer 1 Br unit. It just goes to show how important the resort quality is in matches. The numeric ratings of the resorts I used are around 8.3, 8.9-9 and 9.6 based on TUG. I forget the QRS (quality ratings system) of them but I have been told those in the past.

Dean,
On page 641 and 642 the areas are listed that some members May be restricted from trading into if they also own in that area. Hilton Head, SC is one of these areas. II has changed some of their trading policies. Just last night my 2 bedroom in the mountains pulled a three bedroom in HH for June. I was surprised that it was online and I was able to get a three bedroom with a two bedroom unit.

Unless this has changed in the past 2 months, there has never been a block for DVC or Marriott for HH and I wouldn't expect it to be added after the fact. I don't have my weaker Marriott trader anymore as I just exchanged it for Ocean Pointe for next 4th July. I'm pulling other non Marriott and non DVC resorts with my HH week so I'm sure it's not the regional block issue.

I have red weeks and a yellow week in my account at the same resort. All units are two bedrooms. At certain times of the year, even off-season, the yellow week will pull all resorts at HH including Barony except GO and the two bedrooms at DVC HH. It will pull the one bedrooms. The red week will pull all resorts plus GO and the two bedroom at DVC. GO units must have more demand than the other Marriotts.

I'm surprised you see a difference between GO and Barony, I would have expected them to be close enough it didn't matter. Remember that DVC changed the game this past winer and this will make a difference for each DVC resort. I've also seen changes from week to week. One week my Aruba unit would pull BCV and the next week it wouldn't.

I thought Barony and Grande Ocean would have been about the same, too. That's why it surprised me so that the red week would pull both, but the yellow week would only pull Barony.

Sometimes you get a situation where what your searching with comes in right at the cutoff line between resorts. When that happens, a few extra requests for one resort or a couple of extra deposits can make a big difference. When there were a lot of DVC units back in April and May, some days BWV would have the highest trade value and other days it would be the lowest, even below OKW.
