Intersting article about Disney in the Sentinel

Disney is going after the " the people with more money". They don't want the locals, who go to the park for a few hours and not spending money on food. People who are not staying at there hotels. Just look at the them raising food prices in the last 18 months. Hamburgers went from $ 10. To the new southwest burger for $13. It's 100 degrees in the parks, so they rasied the price of drinks.
Disney are trying to get ride of the "poor people" who split meals, bring food with them. So the rich people have a better experience. People at hotels get 60 have days to get FastPass. People who don't buy tickets in advance, can only get FastPass once in the park. Fat chance of getting anything.

Well We go 1 or 2 times a week and we generally always spend money. Plus We go to at least 1 or 2 MNSSHP and MVMCP every year. Plus for time to time we stay on property. WE also have TiW so we pend a good amount in Food as well. They may not want all locals but I can assure you that they want me in there we SPEND all kinds of money year round.

Keep in mind that when you are discussing Floridians, you are discussing a big state. For some of us going to Disney or Universal or anywhere in Orlando, also includes a hotel stay.

Because there are places in Florida where you have to drive 6 or five hours to get to Orlando

Like any good business with good management...I know that is debatable here lately, they need to cast a wide net to get any and all revenue that will go to the bottom line now and in the future, that's just business 101.

Even if some locals don't spend as much as other locals or "anyone that's not local" there is still a long term benefit for Disney. I know that most people went when they were young and still have the desire for the "Magical feeling" they got and return year after year when they get older with kids of their own or as adults to experience that again.

Whether they stay as locals or move out of state , some are going to come back and spend, maybe even become DVC owners, which again goes to the bottom line.

I see some disgruntled members here which goes more to management decisions and being held accountable to stock holders rather than some family's bringing their own lunch.

I first went 16 years ago as a family of 4 on a budget and was drawn in by the FL discount. Over the years we went without a budget most of the time, and I continue to go and spend a lot each year. Their business plan worked on my family as I'm sure has worked on a lot of others...

Can I just get a Florida AP that runs from October to April? That would be perfect!

It really wouldn't bother me to be blacked out of new attractions for a couple of months.... I haven't been to Epcot since all the new stuff opened because I don't like dealing with the crowds. Or waiting.

Really? Give me a break. Semantics. :rolleyes2

...I always give breaks...

But to your original idea...I think a "three season" pass that excludes the summer months would be a good idea...but it would have to be at a higher price point - say $300 - because they can now attract high spending clientele in those months.

I think the time will come soon where the summer may end up the "value" season.

Don't know now but the value pass (FL resident) of a while ago was essentially a 3 season pass. Pretty much June, July and August were blacked out. I bought our son one just before I started working there, while my wife and I had regular non water park AP's. Didn't need them once I became a CM, had a MGP and comps plus my self admits. :cool1:
