Internet Relationships.... can it work? UPDATE HE"S MARRIED!!!!!!

I met my DF in a message board. We chatted to each other for years. He then travelled to Australia where I lived for business and we met up a few times. I ended up spending the summer travelling to the UK and US with friends and we met in the UK. Then we met up again in the US.

5 years later since first meeting we are now both living together in London.

I would not try to stop her from getting to know this guy, but just be a little wary. There are some weird people out there, but there are also some nice ones as well.

Wow such nice stories with lots of happy endings. I am offically minding my own business. ;)

I really had no idea the amount of people that formed relationships from the net.

I think the key to any relationship is paying attention during the dating phase and using your head. It doesn't really matter where you meet.

The problem is that many people get all caught up in the "soulmate" baloney, and miss the forest for the trees.

I knew I was septical for a reason. Sometimes you have a gut feeling. She met him twice and now finds out not only is he still activley married, but involved in other internet realtionships too. What a total piece of dirt. My girlfreind is just destroyed over all this. She never saw it coming. I feel so bad for her. I wish I could get my hands on him. :badpc: :badpc:

Thats just too sad - My best friend is in a simialr situation - long distance online relationship - met online (I have no problem with that) But this guy is scum and using her!!! Makes me so mad!!!

Just be there for her - she needs your friendship more than anything :grouphug:

DW MeanLaureen and I met on the net back in 99 :)

I know you can get stuck with some scum when meeting people online, but really it's not any different than meeting people in a bar or anywhere else that you would meet them before. There were guys (and women too I suppose) that would lie about thier marital status or that would have multiple "partners" being strung along before internet dating came about.

No matter where you go you are bound to run into the bottom feeders sometime. Even in church - before I met Lauri, she had been engaged to a minister of a good sized Methodist church here in town. They called off the engagement because he was cheating on her. Of course, that totally worked for me since I met her 3 weeks later. :teeth:

My cousin met 3 of her 5 husbands on the net. The other 2, she just...found. I'm sure it could work for some people. A lady at my office has been happily married for a year to a guy she met online. :) Internet or not, if something ever happened to me and DH, I probably wouldn't be able to pick up lint. :rotfl:

I'm so sorry that happened. You can find scum anywhere and the good ones are always hard to find.

I'd be very, very careful if it were me. I know a group of people that got totally scammed by someone online. Scammed by someone they'd known online for over three years. I'd do a background check in a heartbeat.

LOL, colour me sceptical. But for those of you who had a happy ending to your online story. Congrats!!

Wow, good thing she found out now!!! In today's day and age internet dating and match sites are much more widely accepted than they were when the Internet became popular. It's the new milleniums version of meeting in a bar - but this way you get to learn more about a person before you meet them. On my wedding message board there is a very large percentage of people who have met on the net. Fortunately for your friend she found out before it got more serious.
