Do you leave your connection to the internet on all day or do you sign in and out?

I have wireless at my house, so it is on 24/7 (unless Comcast is having a bad day ... then the lights on the modem just flash at me!)

Unless you have dial-up, why would you sign in and out?

Same here. The only way to "turn off" the internet is to turn off the cable modem.

If you are talking about the connection to the Internet mine is always on, even if the computer is off as it is DSL. If you are talking about the browser I do close it from time to time. They all still suffer from memory creep and leaving the same instance of the browser process running all day will start to eat up unnecessary memory.

We have our computer and wireless DSL router on a switch. We turn them on in the morning and off at night. We also have our brower set to clear all cookies, history etc when we log out. We never have our brower remember passwords. So if the computer is on and we close the brower, then we "logout".

We have our wireless DSL router on a timer. It comes on at 9 AM and goes off at 11 PM. And when my computer is on, unless I am using the internet, I am not connected (even if my router is on).

Maybe the terminology I used was wrong. I turn off my computer when I go to bed. I sign on and off of AOL/Internet Explorer. I don't leave my computer on AOL/IE all day. I guess that was the question I was asking.

You know you don't have to use AOL to get a web browser, right?

You can have AOL on all day if you want, and not be signed in for your mail and messaging, by just going to aol.com from any internet browser. I prefer Firefox, but you can download IE (or other browers) if you prefer. You can then just go to aol.com to get your mail and the AOL content. No need to load the AOL application.

And like the others, I do not turn my desktop computer off (unless I am out of town), but generally do shut down my browser and mail program at night. Thus I'm always connected to the internet.
