I read in the fall that internet was going to be free for those staying on points at the DVC resorts. Today I heard that might not be the case. Does anyone know for sure if they have started this yet or not? I will be there next week and I had planned to bring my computer and use it.

(I know I could call them or I could do a search...but i'm too lazy and cheap to do that! :rotfl: )

thanks,
tara

By all accounts the free hi-speed internet has not yet started...and no real ETA when to expect it.

I didn't realize they were going to go with the high speed internet, i thought it was going to be the cable kind that you plug in to your computer.

So it's still $10 a day! That stinks!

Okay, thanks!

Just got back from BCV and it was about $10 / 24 hr period.

Since we were moving off site on the weekend to a place that provided free wireless internet I only hooked up at the BCV one time to check email and pay a few bills.

Ummm...how do YOU get your high speed internet? :)

It usually involves a cable. It could be distributed by Wi-Fi within the building, but it still generally comes in over a cable.

Since the rooms are already wired, and most every laptop made in the past several years comes with a wired ethernet port but not necessarily a Wi-Fi card (although its getting harder to find one without), AND the rooms are already wired, it makes sense to support that.

If you were adding to a building that didn't already have the wiring, putting Wi-Fi access points would make more sense, but it takes several to cover a whole building. Wi-Fi degrades pretty poorly with heavy use.

Some resorts already have Wi-Fi "hotspots", although you still have to pay for the service. I don't know if they are being included in the "free internet" plan, as they may be billed differently (they offer a a partial day - 1 hour maybe? - option not available on the wired connections).

Any other delivery mechanism would be hard pressed to be called "high speed", although there really is no definition. It's a marketing term.
