I know that DVC resorts have internet connections and I know that it is free for members. My question is what type of cable do you need to connect from the laptop to the internet box? I need to make sure I have one of those before my next trip but I don't know what to buy. Is it an ethernet cable?

There will be a cable in the room. It's about 5 feet in length. Unless you need a longer one, you don't have to bring one. If you do bring one, yes it would be an ethernet cable.

Most if not all resorts are wireless now, but if you did want to have a wired connection you will need a Cat5 cable. One is usually provided, check in the closet. If not you should call the front desk. You can also pick up your own at pretty much any electronics store, ebay, etc.

Wi-fi is not provided in resort rooms at any Disney resort, it's ethernet only.

The resorts with convention centers have wi-fi available in common areas (lobby, etc.)

The only DVC resorts with wireless are Vero Beach and Hilton Head Island. All of those in Orlando are wired.

Not correct, unfortunately. All resort rooms have wired internet access. Public areas in some resorts have wireless access.

I just came back from SSR using new laptop for first time. The ethernet cable is hanging in a bag in the closet. It is short, so I was only able to set up computer on the table in the room. I did not lock up my computer when we went out. I bought a computer lock the day before we left and forgot it at home. We didn't have any issues. We even had to have a tech guy come up because I couldn't get online the 2nd day. He came in when we were at the pool and left us a note...again no issues. I enjoyed having my computer more than I imagined!:surfweb:
