We are on the June 8th cruise and we are going with someone that is worried about losing contact with her office. If she opts to purchase the internet package, how does that work and how much is it? Her main question was would she be able to receive e mails on the ship...........

Thanks to all of you computer literate people............... (unlike myself)

If she's really that worried about it, she should stay at home and go to work. :p

The email access that you have would be strictly web based, like hotmail.com - if she's looking for something like outlook/exchange, then no - you won't have that type of access.

The price of the package depends on the length of the cruise - for 7 days it runs about $90.

Your friend has a few options that will make it easier for her to keep in contact with her office.

The first thing she needs to do is to prepare. It is absolutely essential that she knows how to use it and to practise using it before the cruise.

She needs to find out from her Administrator what type of email she has. If it's Web Based or if it can be used as a Web Based account, it will be easy. She can check that type by just typing in the url of the website from Internet Explorer.

Next, is there a way to have her existing email automatically forwarded to another account? If so, she can set up a Web Based account, such as from Hotmail or Yahoo and then just check that from the ship. If not, then more options:

If it is a Pop3 or an IMAP4 type of email server, it's a little more difficult.

There is a website that was developed to help people connect to their email accounts using a Web Browser. It is at www.mail2web.com and is free and very useful. It doesn't work in all cases, so she needs to try it first, before the cruise. She should try to use it from Internet Explorer and be familiar with it before the cruise. If it works Ok, then that's the end of it. If it doesn't, one more option left:

She can establish a Web Based Email account (and practise using it before the cruise) and then inform the people at work of the temp address and then ask them to send her email to the new Web Based account, until she gets back at work.

She should also make a list of all of the email addresses she'll need and then send herself an email at the temp account so she can find them while she's online, and a paper copy to take with her also.

The best way to make it work is to practise before you board the cruise ship. Otherwise, you'll be on the cruise, but you'll miss the 'email boat'.

hope that helps

I, too, take my laptop almost everywhere I travel, but I have never taken it on a Disney trip.

How much would the internet package cost on the 3 day cruise? Also how much time are you allowed?

I take my laptop everywhere, including on my Disney trips, so I can download my digital pictures...that's it! No contact with my office. I want them to realize that it's really hard to live without me for my two weeks!

This year, I will have been out of the office for two week two weeks before my trip (convention in Atlantic City), then Thanksgiving week (only three days that week, so I took vacation then too), and then my trip. They'll have to live without me for a whole month! I won't want to go back!

I hear ya'! I'm the IT manager, and no way am I going to let anyone at work know my home email

In addition to the digicam, I do use it for one other thing -- Quicken, to track my room charges. We use them all the time, so the room bill is usually 7-8 pages long for a 12-day trip. It's much easier entering them each day (or whenever we go crash in the room), then see at a glance that the room bill is correct.

Okay, I just might sneak off to the Internet Cafe once or twice to check my email (with mail2web.com), but only for recreation, not for work:)

The 3 day and the 4 day both cost $39 (I think) and it would also be unlimited use. You can still use it for $0.75 per minute, if you wish.

A caution: If you use it on a per minute basis and your cost goes above what the unlimited cost would be, I don't believe they convert it for you. In other words, I believe you could end up paying $45 (for example) if you used it per minute instead of the $39 unlimited rate, if you used it for a lot of minutes.

hope that helps

If my hubby decides not to bring his laptop, can he access his email from one of the computers on board?

Yep. In fact, that's the only way he can access his email while onboard. He just needs to make sure he has someway to access his email via a web browser.

Suggest that she checks it from outside the office as some companies restrict access due to security.
