Internet and cable at the fort

That would not be good if your depending on it and The Fort can't support what they are promising. How many people have not been able to get the hook up? We will be there for 2 weeks and do a lot of home business

You cannot bring your own cable modem, it will not work on the system.

you can bring a mifi (puck, whatever) and that will work. I found decent sprint 4G in at least the 300 loop, ATT 4G seemed to be good as well (neighbor.)

I did get a modem, but it took about 2 days before one freed up.

We have the Verizon Jetpack, so we are not dependent on the Disney modem package. It works well wherever Verizon cellular works: at the Fort and elsewhere when we are traveling. I understand we could have it disabled a couple times a year, but we keep it active in case we want to go somewhere on the spur of the moment.

We finally got the internet modem. Took 3 days. There was a 3 page wait list. If you have to have internet for work, then you definately have to find another way of getting the internet.

I just got back last week and it was a 3 day waiting list for the router. The CM said they are in the process of buying 75 more, but they would still be short of the number they need. But I was able to walk over to the training post in the morning to get some essential work done, the WiFi there was fast enough for my minor needs.

Are you sure the DIY solution won't work? The modem they hand out looks like any old Linksys cable modem. Seems a splitter and some cable is all you'd need to add to the modem.

I understand it has to do with the channel (frequency) assignments used in the Disney proprietary/contract system they use. Likewise, you need the Disney converter for watching Disney cable on an older model TV in your RV.

No it will not. Cable modems use DOCSIS as the protocol to talk on the wire (in this case coax), they use a standard set of equipment, frequencies and and protocols. But to avoid unauthorized use of internet, the standard is to only allow a modem based on MAC address of the modem and can even include a digital certificate to authenticate the modem on the system.

Since any cable modem complying to DOCSIS standards can be programed by at the head end known as the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) any modem brand can be used, but still must be programmed to be allowed onto the system.

How many of those smartphones can be created into wi-fi hot spot?

How many FW folks are you using the MYdisneyexperience app on these phones?

I call my provider (sprint) add wireless internet hot spot service to my phone a few day before i leave and when I get home call and cancel. Cost $20 X 10/30 days. This way I can also set-up my devices with the correct wireless network. I also have unlimited data on my plan, you may want to double check this.

For the most part I then have wireless the whole trip, at rest stops, driving, and in my camper at the table. As the 4G mobile network is getting rolled out, my samsung phone is doing more and more heavy lifting by its self. The laptop is really just becoming my mobile storage for my camera......... and an extra TV with netflix and hulu+, combined $16 per month. I dropped cable over a year ago saving me $1000... now I use that to fund Disney Trips!!!

While we haven't camped at Disney, we do camp often. We invested in a WiFi booster for our camper. Several of the campgrounds we stay at, we are just outside of their WiFi range. The booster make a huge difference.

Agreed...someone give us the email address to address these concerns. I had to get the "free" modem kit back in November it was horrible. Poor CM's at The Meadow Trading Post they are so tired of hearing us complain about the cable being upgraded, but not the Wi-Fi

Some of us have old laptops with no batteries and they are too clunky to drag to the their hot spot areas. Plus, you shouldn't have to leave the comfort of your own home. On a positive note I have heard some lucky dogs in the 900 loop can access the Wi-Fi from their campers. Too bad I prefer the 800 loop.

Wow nice tip. I wonder if my old I phone 4s can pull that off as I am grand fathered in with ATT&T on unlimited data. I pay for Wi-Fi on the tablet I bought from them, but it sucked last time I was there and froze up a lot including while I was logging into ADP for my job. Guess I better check with ATT&T store before I leave as I always have a working vacay.

Yeah I was trying to be kinda cheeky. Well, someday I hope to be rich enough to retire and just travel the country in my 5th wheel with my BT's and hubby. So I guess then it will actually be my home.
