internet access in staterooms?

Hello, we will be first timers on the Jan. 4, 2004 4 night sailing. My husband needs to have internet access for his e-mails. Is there a way to connect in the rooms with a lap top? If not is there any other place on the ship to plug in? Also does anyone know the dial-up cost for this? Thanks. Marilyn

As of right now there is no way to use your laptop for internet access on the ships. There was a rumor (?) that they are working on putting wireless in limited areas of the ships, but it won't work in the rooms. They DO have an internet cafe with internet access. There is either a per minute charge or a flat rate for the whole cruise (I don't remember what they are offhand though, I'm thinking around $40 for the 4 night but don't quote me on that).

Hi Marilyn. Welcome to the DIS!
The only internet access is in the "Internet Cafe" and the "Cove Cafe". There is no internet access in the cabins.

I do not remember the charge, however you can pay by the minute or pay a flat fee for the whole week. You'll get a username and id that will give you access to the internet. You then log into whatever email server you use.

DH certainly wouldn't mind paying for the unlimited use, however, if you can't get on the computer - what's the point?

He can't sign on with HIS laptop, he has to use one of the ship's computers. That works he just has to make arrangement's ahead of time. It depends on the mail system that his company uses, some have direct web access, with some you need to forward them to an account that does. If his company is big enough to have an IT person they can certainly help, if not you can post or PM me with more info about what type of mail system his company uses.

<font color=navy>I was just one the Wonder (9/25 sail date), and I got the unlimited internet access for $40. I used the internet a lot, probably twice a day, and sometimes there was no one in there, and sometimes a few people. There always was a computer available, and I had no trouble accessing my email. I was there in morning, afternoon, and at night - no problems.

The internet cafe was at one end of the Promenade Lounge, closest to the Parrot Cay restaurant.

When you log on, you can log on using AOL, yahoo, or a couple of other internet providers. You can also log on using the ship's internet.

I noticed that I could only open one window at a time, but it was easy to navigate through the various sites.

Unfortunately, for e-mail the Disney ships' are limited to web mail accounts.

On some Royal Caribbean ships, they let you hook up to your laptop in your cabin and use any e-mail software that you have installed. You're essentially connecting to the Internet through a floating ISP. It costs extra, but it works great to keep your business running while cruising.

I wish Disney would provide that sort of setup.

If he can't log on to his own email from a remote location, and I bet he probably can, you can access any email from mail2web.com You just put in your email address and password and all messages are displayed. You can reply, compose, etc. The messages just load on mail2web.com's page, so it won't look like your normal Outlook Express or Eudora etc. display at home. You won't have your address book either, since that is part of the program on your own computer, so be sure to have any addresses you need.

Be sure to enter the raffle in the internet cafe when you sign up for unlimited use. My husband used the internet Cafe alot on our trip. He bought the unlimited use. He won the raffle and the fees were waived!!
