I'm on the Magic right now using the internet access and thought I'd post some stuff for those who might be curious. Especially the limitations that one will run into.
It is supplied by an organization called MTN, Maritime Telecommnucations Network.
I consider myself a power user and get frustrated when things don't work right and I can't do anything to fix things. So other users coming onboard will know what to expect, here is what I see about the machines so far:
Physically locked down. You get a keyboard, mouse, and screen. There is no other access to the computer.
OS is a locked down version of WinXP though it uses what uses looks like a classic Win98 windows desktop. Off of the Start button, you get a limited set of programs to run like IE, Acrobat, Win Media Player. Oddly, some Accesories are still available.
Control key is locked down and I cannot get anything using a control key to work. This blocks speed keys like Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V for cutting and pasting. Edit Copy and Paste are still available through the menus though.
Right click on the mouse is locked down and I cannot bring up any right click menus.
Cookies appear to have a timeout forced on them. If I sit in DISboards too long, the board forgets that I already logged in. This makes it impossible to compose a long post in DISboards. I've worked around this by bringing up Notepad and composing in there. Then I can cut and paste my post in a minute without the login cookies timing out.
