I know this has been gon over before but I am still confused:confused3
What does $9.95 for a contiguous 24 hour period mean? Is it $9.95 a day as in $80 for 8 days or if you use the internet 2 hours a day for 12 days?

Contiguous means "next to each other" so if you start using the internet at 9:00AM on Sunday, you will have until 24 hours later (9:00AM on Monday) to use it before you have to pay another $9.95.

Sucks,,dudn'it ?
Thats our Bobby I. for ya.
You could almost get an air card for that price.

Thanks
That puts it way out of my price range:sad1:
Just thought I might share our trip while we were there. It's amazing that McDonalds and just about every motel and most small campgrounds have some kind of limited access but Disney wants even more of your money for something everyone else gives away:confused3

I think there are a couple "hot spots" where you can do "short term" connections for $4.95.

Don't remember how long but I think one is at Trails End.

FOUND THE INFO:

Fee: $4.99 for the first 60 minutes or $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours. The vendor that provides this Wi-Fi service, Smart City, will bill you using a secure credit card transaction via the on-screen internet connection.

Requirements: a wireless interface card installed on your device. These are available for purchase in each resort's business center.

If I need to purchase internet access at Disney, here is what I'll do. I'll log on say Friday night at 10pm, do whatever I want on the internet that night, then again for an hour or so the Saturday morning, then again Saturday night at about 9pm get online again and make sure I'm done before 10pm.

Then, I don't get back online again till Sunday night about 10pm and repeat the process.

So for an 8 day trip, I can get online every night and every other morning and only pay for internet every other day.

We decided to go with prepaid broadband and an air card. The rates are comparable and we should be able to use it wherever we get coverage while traveling too. Verizon is $50 for 500 MB which is good for 1 Month. Virgin Mobile is less, but I have heard that the coverage isn't as good. The usb modem is about $129 without a plan, but we figure that we can use it whenever we go camping so that cost will get spread out over time.

This is exactly what I did in November - after I received a 3 day free use credit. I received the credit because the first cable modem kit they rented to us didn't work, and we wasted a good 2 hours dinking around with it & Smart City's tech support. I went back and spoke with Asian Jason and asked if there was anyway I could be compensated for the time wasted with the first modem. He gave us 3 days complimentary usage. :yay:

It doesn't get any better than being at the Fort and staying in touch with your Fort Fiends!!

I can tether my laptop via USB cable to my Blackberry and use it as a modem. Worked like a champ the last time at the fort.

Might pick up a cheap wireless hotspot to plug into my BB so I can roam and the kids can use it in the car on the trip too... hmmmmmmm....

Verizon air card works great at the Fort too. Occasionally you'll stumble across an unlocked network, but those tend to come and go pretty frequently.

Last time I used Disney's modem/access I did the same thing as Carol - timed my logins to only need to pay every other day. :)

.

That's what I do normally if I'm just surfin or payin a bill, but that is painfully slow.

If for some reason I need to work or download a file or email a file, or connect to our VPN, then I break down and pay for it.

We have the Sprint air card. I use it every day, so it is worth it to us. It is about 60 a month. It is nice too, because it makes the time go by faster when we are traveling as well.

I did this also with my Droid phone. I believe you can also do this with the Iphone. This is the site I got the program through.
