International travel restrictions

Did I miss something? I didn’t hear any date specific talk from Premier Horgan for travel except some talk about May long weekend and not yet for Alberta/BC travel.
I‘ll wait to here from Trudeau about international travel and when border will open before I go and cancel Aug plans. I expect we’ll hear in another week when current agreement ends. I feel it’s possible they may extend to June, but imo I think border will be open by July. Just my opinion. Things are changing all the time.

up. I think that was the final straw for our August trip :( Ok well technically I'm waiting for the next announcement from Trudeau but I'm expecting the same answer from him that we heard today from the premier. Then I'll definitely cancel. Sigh. October will be next on the chopping block.

Hopefully we can travel within BC though, he made it sound like later in June that would be an option with hotels reopening. So hopefully a trip to the Okanagan or something. Was thinking AB for later in August with our trip being cancelled but right now they are not accepting reservations for out of province guests.

We've cancelled our end of July Maui trip :( it's sad, but we can't afford a 2 week quarantine after travel if Hawaii is open by then to visitors, however if you do plan something for the Okanagan, we should do a socially distanced meet up :)

I’m waiting for Trudeau as well. I haven’t cancelled yet but it’s looking more and more like a rebook for next year.
The Okanagan is beautiful so that may be where we end up too. I hope your AB plans work out for you!

If you do plan the Okanagan, socially distanced DIS meet up :)

Not specific dates but he did say the 14 day quarantine would be around for some time and that it would be monitored to make sure people were complying. I don’t know who makes that final decision and I haven’t cancelled yet either but the mandatory quarantine will be a deal breaker for me. I can’t take a month off work for a 2 week vacation. :guilty: With Disneyland now pushing their closure to July 1st it’s not looking good for my August trip anyway...I’d like them to be open for awhile before I go so they can iron out the wrinkles while trying to put new protocol in place.

If you can't do Disneyland maybe Wonderland will be open by then and you can visit that park. Its in Canada.

Oh no, that's sad about Maui :( Hopefully you will be able to rebook for another time. I will definitely keep you posted if we decide to do the Okanagan! I haven't been up there for about two years so it's time for another visit ;)

I feel exactly the same! At the end of the day, the PM is the one who decides if the border is open or closed and the quarantine act is federally mandated, not at a provincial level. Many of us in BC know that Horgan has an extreme dislike for Trudeau (that's putting it mildly) so he is speaking out of turn a bit....will wait and see what the PM decides in the next week or two.

Well, since Ontario feels it doesn’t want to open anything up in the near future, we are sitting in a holding pattern on our June flights (purchased long ago) and WDW trip (end of June) pending Disney opening or not. I figure we can deal with the quarantine if applicable since in that case, chances are that all of the camps will have been cancelled for the summer too so DS wouldn’t be missing anything in that 14 day period. It will be a different story if the quarantine is still mandatory after our October cruise (again, pending DCL being operational) because then as PP says the missed school time is not an option.

Does anyone happen to recall when the extension on land border crossing restrictions was supposed to end? That might give us a clue as to the quarantine issue if people are flying in or out.

May 21 the closure is supposed to end. So if he's going to extend it again look for an announcement just a few days before that. The border closure between US and Mexico (which has also been extended once) expires May 19 so an update to that should come even sooner. If that one is extended again I'd say ours would be, too.

Now, this could all vary airline to airline. I think Air Canada said you need to have a face covering (mask, scarf, etc). Check out their new procedures:

Funny how this will make everything that was once dirty and gross (planes, hotel rooms, etc) be actually clean like they should have been!

The Government of Canada requires the face masks for air passengers: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/non-medical-face-masks-travel-1.5536702

Without getting political Trudeau could open the border but still keep the quarantine order in place. Additionally would employers mandate a quarantine/work from home order for employees travelling cross-border or even could schools?

Yes, I'm agreeing with you all about the masks / face covering. I'm just posting what Air Canada's new procedures are.

That is what I've thought for a while, would be open the border but keep the quarantine act in place...or will employers now make it mandatory if the govt doesn't.

Doug Ford said today he hopes the borders stays closed til we have better screening for people coming into our country.
