International Driving Permit

The AA's website comments that an IDP is 'recommended' and I have indeed obtained one in the past.

What is the view on the forum? Do you still buy one?

I don't think they are needed in the US. Your standard UK driving license is fine (paper or photo).

I believe some countries require it though.

your fine with the British one - take both parts if it's a photocard though!

You don't need it to drive in Florida. As the others have said, make sure you have your driving licence (though we have never been asked to show our photocard, it was handy to have in my purse as ID)

We have just used our paper driving licence when we have visited Orlando.
