international driving permit

I have driven in orlando before be it 10 years ago I understand the changes with the dvla code just wondered if anyone has been told to get one of these or been asked for it at a rental desk ?
as we are going in october and will have to get one if necessary

You don't need the international permit but you apply for the dvla code before you hire the car and it lasts for 72 hours. We fly out in 6 weeks, will advise when we get the car if they wanted it. DH is still taking the paper part of his licence too, just in case. We are hiring care in two different places, going to be fun!

You don't need an IDP if you have a UK DL.

I remember getting one, but I'm not sure if i used it or not. It seems to cost £8 so to me, £8 for peace of mind is a good thing.

EDIT: Ignore my statement. If you're licence is in English you're OK to drive in Florida

If your DL is issued in the UK written in English then you are wasting £8.

Info from US embassy London:
It is recommended that drivers who possess a full national license that is in script other than Roman, i.e. Cyrillic or Arabic, should also obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP).

Do I need an International Driving License to Drive in the USA?
If your license is not printed in the English language then you will need to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local licensing authority.

You responded just as i was editing my post, haha. You're right of course. A quick google search showed the same. As long as your license is in British you're OK

Now I can't remember why I had one... Maybe it was for another country.
