Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help me? Does anyone know what time is rush hour in USA and therefore extra busy on I-Drive?

I have heard that it is grid locked during busy times, but I don't know when there are. Is it better or worse on weekends?

The reason is that I plan to take a taxi from Boardwalk to Pointe Orlando on I-Drive and I don't want to get stuck in traffic. (I am not confident enough to drive in USA yet)

Your help will be great fullly recieved.

Thanks

Hi HJ

I dont think there is a particular time when I/Drive is busier than usual - all the times I have been there (6) it has always been a very, very busy road. The traffic has normally been bumper to bumper, but not at a standstill unless there was accident/problems. Even when we were there for the Millennium and the whole of Orlando was 'Buzzing' it was still passable.

Local Taxi Drivers may know of quicker routes/short cuts so it may not be as bad as you expect?

I wouldnt let it worry you so much to change your plans - it is a major tourist area and always busy. Possibly the weekends may be slightly heavier as Locals may hit the scene but in my experience the Americans tend to stay away from I/Drive for the weekend breaks/vacations anyway.

Hope this helps - :)

Any Taxi driver worth his salt will use the Universal Boulevard route.

This sort of bypasses I drive and runs from Universal to Pointe Orlando, ending at the FAO Schultz Rag Doll T. Lights by Pointe Orlando. I think there is only 2/3 sets of t lights, takes 5 minutes.

The times I've stayed on IDrive (Southern End), in October, I have always found the road fairly quiet.

I did notice it getting busier the further north you went though - towards Wet 'n' Wild and Belz.

The Sand Lake Road junction seemd quite busy too.

Hi
Pointe Orlando is at the bottom, quieter end of I-Drive so traffic shouldn't be a problem. The worse jams we had were at the junctions with Sand Lake Road and Kirkman Road

Have Fun!!

Is this the road that runs kind of parallel to I-Drive ? From memory it runs behind FAO Schultz ? and joins near the top of I-drive. Just wondering myself now.

that's the one, it runs from Pointe Orlando, all the way up to Universal parallel to I-drive. It goes behind wet n wild etc. We used it a lot, as the top end of i-drive, above sand lake road, was just gridlocked all the time.
but if you are coming from disney, then the lower part of i-drive upto pointe orlando was generally fine

That is the one......

An I Drive by pass that also by passes the I4.

It crosses I Drive at wet n wild and onto Universal. You then miss the turn off to Universal, get back onto the I4 and go around again :)
