Looking for some help / advice planning a cheap 'off disney ' day out.

We r Staying on disney next April /May and I'm planning an off site day of shopping & eating.

But we don't drive .

I've found out about the lynx bus no. 50 that takes you from disney ticket & transportation centre to sea world ,. Any one used this before ? I'm going to buy a day pass

My plan is then to get the no.8 and travel up I drive - I know there is a premium outlets at the top as we went there 9 yrs ago when it was the beltz shopping mall.

Just wondered if there were any other good places on I drive to stop off at and perhaps get lunch ? Or shop ? What do you think - is it a mad plan ?
I know there is a wet n wild but are there any other things to do?

I welcome any suggestions
Thanks

I Drive is huge so any advice would depend upon when you are staying. Universal, Islands of Adventure and Wet n a Wild are at the north end, whereas Sea World is at the south. There are also four major malls all within a short distance. If you provide some more detail, people will be able to tell you how to get to these without a car.

We got the bus from the Disney transportation hub to Florida Mall a few years ago. Never again! It was cheap and the drivers were great in telling us where to get off and on but it took over 3hours to get to Florida mall. We got a Taxi back and it took 12 minutes. Not saying don't do it, but have a real look into times etc before you jump on the bus.

the 50 lynx doesn't take long at all to get to SeaWorld and the 8 bus seems to turn up pretty quickly. Have a look at Point Orlando for food, there are a few places to eat. The further up Idrive you go towards the Premium Outlets (the old Belz, which you won't recognise at all by the way) the more tacky it seems to get and I wouldn't bother. Its just full of cheap shops... Its not a mad plan, many many people don't drive in Florida and its perfectly easy to get about. Sometimes it can take a long time to get to places, ie Universal/IOA, Florida Mall, but if its cheapie holiday you're after then why not do it.

Me & Mrs B are currently thinking of loosing a park day(instead of a second visit to DHS) and heading to international drive for a shopping excursion before returning to disney for our evening meal.

We are staying at Disney and would just want to hit one mall only on I-Drive to hit some clothing outlets, Nike, Ralph Lauren etc just to get a few few bargains a coupe of hours tops would be enough sat between 3 & 4?

We would hope to find a mall that the DD's could spend their holiday savings on so that's daughter 7 and son 16.

We would prefer a bus but would take a taxi if needed.

Any recommendations?

The Premium Outlets have two outlets one at the top of Idrive and one at the other end on Vineland. The Vineland road one is the nearest to WDW but the smaller of the two, although they have extended it and it is big, just not as massive as the Idrive one. Its easy to get to by 50 lynx to the stop before SeaWorld (ask for a transfer so you can catch the next bus free), cross the road and pick up the 8 to Premium outlets at Vineland.(is the last stop so they will turf you off) Or get off at the same stop and pick up the 8 on the same side of the road to Idrive Premium Outlets. A taxi to the Vineland one won't cost the earth but it just depends if you'd rather spend that money on other things. The bus really doesn't take long.:)

Thank you for the suggestions.

I've looked at the pointe Orlando and it has a comedy club , and blues club that look interesting . Has anyone ever been to any of these?

Also more suggestions are welcome , any good restaurants near a bus stop?

Thank you;)

Dh has just reminded me that the last time we were there (2011). There were bill boards about a titanic exhibition some where on idrive. I know that will have long gone but any ideas like that? ;)
Thank you

The titanic is higher up I drive and a little further is the pirate adventure show, we got living social vouchers for it and it was great fun. Millers ale house is decent and good for drinks $8 ish for 5 bottles. It's just up from pointe Orlando.

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure is at one end of International Drive, Seaworld is kind of in the middle ish. Then there are Outlets at either end.

There's lots of little touristy souvenir shops along international drive and loads of restaurant choice... I think it was CiCi's Pizza and Pasta place we had a voucher for it was ok but then when we went into the toilets I said never again. It was horrific. One of the Pizza Hut's had a very angry waitress the last time we were there as well and we saw mice running along the wall outside the place so maybe avoid those.. I think they were around stops 11-15 on the iride..

There's other little touristy things like Titanic the Experience. We did that and thought it was good. Then there's stuff like Ripley's believe or not place as well.
There's alot to do on international drive so I would have a plan in mind before setting out. You won't get it all done in one day anyway.

That's another thing I would recommend. From what I remember there are various Lynx buses but they don't stop in as many places or as often as the i-ride. What I would suggest is getting the lynx bus to Seaworld and then using to i-ride to go wherever else you want to go.

As above - Lynx stops are less frequent (every 2-3 I-Ride stops) but therefore move faster and are better outside of I Drive. I-Ride is much more tourist-friendly and stops anywhere you want, better for within I Drive probably.
