International Bank Charge

When reviewing my bank statement recently I noticed that I had a $4.95 international fee. The only charges in that account are for my cruise. The most recent charges were the pre-payment of my gratuities and a pre-payment to Shutters for a photo package. I asked at the bank but they weren't sure which was the international charge. Am I going to have an international charge show up on my account for room charges? Is Shutters considered international or is the Dream since it is technically home ported to Nassau?

I believe the pre-payment to Shutters is the culprit -- others have mentioned an international fee as well. You will NOT have an international fee charged for settling your onboard stateroom account as that processes through the US system, the same as payment for your cruise fare. You'll want to be careful about using your credit card in port, though.

Enjoy your cruise!

Not sure where you live but I am in canada and when I use my canadaian credit card out side of canada I am charged a international fee each time. It is a percentage of your purchase. This started a few years ago it was not like that beforel. You would think they would want you to use your card when you travel.

Not all cards have fees. Discover does not, and if you search you can find others that don't (we have a Bank of America Travel Rewards card that has the chip in it and doesn't charge a foreign transaction fee). Otherwise, it can be from 1-3% on each transaction. Even if they are charging you dollars, if the transaction is *in* a foreign country, it can be considered a foreign transaction.

It is from the Shutters charge. It says right on their website that they are based in Grand Cayman and your CC might charge an international fee, even though they charge in USD. It informs you again when you go through the check out process. We have a no foreign transaction fee CC we use for this and overseas purchases.

I think I would have some concern if my bank couldn't tell me which transaction triggered the foreign transaction fee.

Actually I love my new bank and I was just talking with a clerk and she didn't have the full info on my account, just names and dates. I had two charges the same day so we knew it has to either be Disney or Shutters.
