No it's not a new coaster, but it does sound like Cedar Point may be taking a different direction.....

SANDUSKY, OH -- April 7, 2009 - Cedar Point's Frontier Trail will be filled with light and music when the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort will introduce the Starlight Experience, a brand new themed lighted walkway, for this summer.

Each night, the Frontier Trail will be transformed into a brilliant canopy of lights and colors that will be themed to the changing of the seasons. Similar to the climate in the Midwest, each display will gently segue into a different season.

Accompanied with music, the Starlight Experience will use a diverse mixture of colored lights and displays to decorate and highlight the buildings, trees and structures along the wooded walkway. It will extend from the bridge across from the Snake River Falls water ride to the tunnel beneath Millennium Force.

Besides the seasonal scenes, the Starlight Experience will also use several themed floats that will depict each season. For younger guests, Snoopy and his favorite friends will also be included in the show. Larger-than-life replicas of the PEANUTS characters will be displayed at different locations along the trail.

Using more than one million highly efficient LED lights, the Starlight Experience will be presented every night the park closes at 10 p.m. or later, Saturday, May 23 (Memorial Day weekend) through Sunday, Sept. 6. The new family attraction will cost approximately $1 million to design and install.

"The Starlight Experience will be a very popular addition to the park this summer," said Charles Bradshaw, corporate vice president of live entertainment for the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. "These dramatic light displays will appeal to everyone in the family and will be a wonderful finale to our guests' day in the park."

Besides being visually stunning, the Starlight Experience will also be environmentally friendly. LED lights use a lot less energy and will last considerably longer than standard bulbs. Plus, LED lights reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and do not contain mercury.

The Starlight Experience is scheduled to begin daily at twilight and will be in operation until the Maverick and Millennium Force roller coasters close for the evening. (The Frontier Trail will close 30 minutes for show setup.)

I wonder it there will be dancers on roller skates dressed up like trains...

Oh, wait, that's the "Starlight Express".:confused3

This could be really really bad if not done properly. At least they're not using Christmas lights. :lmao: (Or maybe they will.)

You just know you'll be seeing hundreds of tired parents pushing their kids in strollers through this thing every night. Sounds like a good way to put a screaming child to sleep. :thumbsup2

I thought the same thing. I had to reread it to make sure Andrew Lloyd Weber wasn't coming to Cedar Point.

I'm hoping its not like the Halloweekend Parade they debuted recently. Doesn't sound like something I would enjoy, but will check it out and hope to be wrong.

Get out of my head!

That's exactly what I thought!

So . . . it sounds like they're attempting something like the Osborne Family Lights . . . in the Summer. :confused3

Sounds . . . interesting.

And the big news from Cedar Point today?

A contest to be the first to ride the new coaster.....AT KINGS ISLAND!

Geesh! Give me Cedar Point dirt! If I wanted to know about Kings Island I would visit their webpage! :sad2:

In all fairness, Cedar Point disclosed that there would be no new rides this season at the end of the 2008 season. Cedar Fair is trying to capitalize on their other properties. I have been to King Island, nothing special. I will enter the contest though....just because you'll never win if you don't enter.

I understand that there will be no new rides, but tell more about what Cedar Point is doing, not Kings Island!

I do not like this new 'globalization" thing...

They are busy installing new in park camera's. And re-paving the main drag. Nothing too exciting. Unfortunately.

Interactive water play area, new light show, new restaurants....they could update us on those. :confused3

I know, I know...... I'm too picky! :lmao:

But it is "my" Disney World!

If you've never been to King's Island during Pride Night, I suggest going at least once. The only down side is that it's open only from about 6-midnight. (There's also usually a huge amount of "hill folk" there, but don't let that scare you. :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:) Seriously.....riding the Beast and The Vortex in the dark is amazing. These coasters aren't lit up at night, which I love. :thumbsup2 Plus, the longest line I've ever waited in has only been about 10 minutes.

One thing I hope Cedar Fair doesn't change about King's Island is the atmosphere. It almost doesn't feel like an amusement park because of all the trees and landscape. I mean, where else can you go where a roller coaster goes through trees and hills? I just hope CF doesn't try to make it feel like Cedar Point where all you pretty much see is rides, games and concrete. (Sensory overload.) Cedar Point is getting so tight on space that they've even started intertwining their coasters. :confused3

Get a bunch of us together and there is bound to be AT LEAST one Andrew Lloyd Webber reference :P

LOL!

(BTW, in my opinion that show and score are terribly underrated...)

Checked out where Ceader Point is in relation to where I live.. 7 Hours away..
but it is an easy drive from route 80...LOL

As for starlight express.. I think that was one of the first Broadway shows I saw.
