So I've read (in admiration) the threads about the Mickey light posts :thumbsup2 (and showed them to Grumpy Husband, give him some time and he'll get in the spirit)

We just bought our RV, an older used well-loved 22' Coachman. The interior is in good shape, it's just unattractive, very generic. Or rather, it does not properly reflect my creative genius. So I've decided a little re-decorating is in order.

I tried googling a bunch of stuff like "RV interior decorating" etc etc, and couldn't find much. Surely somewhere in the universe there are people that went just a little nuts with the inside of their campers, right? Or the outside, even. Somebody throw me a line! I need inspiration! :woohoo:

My SIL has done just that. She hated the interior of her camper. She has replaced the border (wall paper), bought comforters and throw pillows for the furniture, added throw rugs, added a decorative lamp, and is the process of making new window treatments. She has stated that she wants to have a Martha Stewart camper, and she is well on her way. Just those additions have made a huge difference.

We had an older motor home that we completely re-decorated on the inside. I pulled out all the couches and took them to my local re-upholsterer to have new fabrics installed. We pulled out the flooring and put all new in. I made new window treatments and the walls were painted. Before you ask ..... yes, even the crappy paneling took the paint just fine and adhered for the entire length of time we had the camper:cool1: . I say that if you're not happy with it, then change it. Otherwise, you'll just be wishing that you're someplace else.

I agree. Isn't RV upholstery some of the ugliest fabric on the face of the earth!!! The camper we are looking at buying, I don't care what fabric I get because they are all hideous and that's the first thing I do is recover those cushions!!! Check out www.tab-rv.com and you'll see what I mean.

I can't believe how ugly the interiors have gotten over the last few years. The colors aren't even pretty let alone those gaudy patterns!

My last TT needed a little updating. I bought a new bed spread with a light house on it and put a pretty light house border around it. It really brightened it up. I also got some throw pillows for the couch.

I still use the pillows and I have little light house wind chimes hanging from my curtain rods. I also have light house throw rugs. It makes it more like home to us.

:tink:

Our motorhome is an 07 and my hubby wouldn't think about letting me recover anything, lol !! I did add my own touches though. We went with an "up north" kind of theme...moose, bear, pine cones, etc. I have a new comforter set, hung some old fashioned tin camping signs in the bathroom, have woodsy bathroom accessories and I found some cute throw pillows and cabin decor items online. I've also seen some really nicely done Americana themes, tropical, beach, etc.

Some people have replaced the carpet with wood floors, replaced furniture, etc. There are a lot of things you can do to make it your own.

OK, for those of us not so talented, anyone know of a place where we can order some window treatments, made to order, choosing from a number of fabric patterns? Thank you.

hatchmo, I sew and will make my own.

My advice then, would be to go to the fabric store (or Wal-Mart or whatever) and look at the pattern catalogs. Find something appropriate and look at the fabrics there, and buy what it says on the back of the pattern envelope.

You can probably find a local "alterations" person to sew them up for you, or a place that does upholstery, take your window measurements and your supplies and they should be able to whip them right up for you. Curtains aren't hard to do. If you find a good seamstress and can describe what you want, or have a picture, they might not even need a pattern. If you have a local college, you might be able to hook up with a fashion major or a theatre seamstress and get good work for cheap (college students are always looking for a way to make some extra cash).

You could also buy extra fabric to re-do the cushions, etc. and make it all matchy-matchy. ;)

My plan for now, with our RV, is I am definately re-covering the cushions (they are almost-new from the previous owner, but I don't like them), and I am going to paint the paneling and the cabinets. I painted the cabinets in our "real" kitchen so I don't see how it would be any different. After that, I'll take a look around and see what else to do. :thumbsup2
